I cried like a swift or thrush, I moaned like a mourning dove. My eyes grew weak as I looked to the heavens. I am being threatened; Lord, come to my aid!”

We all growl like bears, And moan sadly like doves; We look for justice, but there is none; For salvation, but it is far from us.

I am a brother of jackals, And a companion of ostriches.

I am weary with my crying; My throat is dry; My eyes fail while I wait for my God.

My heart is stricken and withered like grass, So that I forget to eat my bread.Because of the sound of my groaning My bones cling to my skin.I am like a pelican of the wilderness; I am like an owl of the desert.I lie awake, And am like a sparrow alone on the housetop.

My eyes fail from searching Your word, Saying,“ When will You comfort me?”

“ Now put down a pledge for me with Yourself. Who is he who will shake hands with me?

Still our eyes failed us, Watching vainly for our help; In our watching we watched For a nation that could not save us.
