In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said,“ This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”

In those days Hezekiah became very sick. He knew he was about to die. Isaiah went to see him. Isaiah was the son of Amoz. Isaiah told Hezekiah,“ The Lord says,‘ Put everything in order. Make out your will. You are going to die soon. You will not get well again.’ ”

About that time Hezekiah became deathly ill, and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to visit him. He gave the king this message:“ This is what the Lord says:‘ Set your affairs in order, for you are going to die. You will not recover from this illness.’”

And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him and said to him,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ Set your house in order, for you are going to die and not live.’ ”Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord,and said,“ Please, Lord, just remember how I have walked before You wholeheartedly and in truth, and have done what is good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept profusely.Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah, saying,“ Go and say to Hezekiah,‘ This is what the Lord, the God of your father David says:“ I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will add fifteen years to your life.And I will save you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will protect this city.” ’“ And this shall be the sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord will perform this word that He has spoken:Behold, I will make the shadow on the stairway, which has gone down with the sun on the stairway of Ahaz, go back ten steps.” So the sun’s shadow went back ten steps on the stairway on which it had gone down.

In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill; and he prayed to the Lord, and the Lord spoke to him and gave him a sign.

In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him and said to him,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ Set your house in order, for you are going to die and not live.’ ”Then he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, saying,“ Please, Lord, just remember how I have walked before You wholeheartedly and in truth, and have done what is good in Your sight!” And Hezekiah wept profusely.And even before Isaiah had left the middle courtyard, the word of the Lord came to him, saying,“ Return and say to Hezekiah the leader of My people,‘ This is what the Lord, the God of your father David says:“ I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I am going to heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.And I will add fifteen years to your life, and I will save you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will protect this city for My own sake and for My servant David’s sake.” ’ ”Then Isaiah said,“ Take a cake of figs.” And they took it and placed it on the inflamed spot, and he recovered.Now Hezekiah said to Isaiah,“ What will be the sign that the Lord will heal me, and that I will go up to the house of the Lord on the third day?”Isaiah said,“ This shall be the sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord will perform the word that He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten steps or go back ten steps?”So Hezekiah said,“ It is easy for the shadow to decline ten steps; no, but have the shadow turn backward ten steps.”Then Isaiah the prophet called out to the Lord, and He brought the shadow on the stairway back ten steps by which it had gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.

Now when Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and set out and went to his home, to his city, and set his house in order, and hanged himself; so he died and was buried in his father’s grave.

When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their evil way, then God relented of the disaster which He had declared He would bring on them. So He did not do it.

Then Jonah began to go through the city one day’s walk; and he cried out and said,“ Forty more days, and Nineveh will be overthrown.”

But it happened at that time that she became sick and died; and when they had washed her body, they laid it in an upstairs room.

Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent word to Hezekiah, saying,“ This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says:‘ Because you have prayed to Me about Sennacherib king of Assyria,

Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah and said to him,“ What did these men say, and from where did they come to you?” And Hezekiah said,“ They came to me from a far country, from Babylon.”Then he said,“ What have they seen in your house?” So Hezekiah answered,“ They have seen everything that is in my house; there is nothing among my treasuries that I have not let them see.”

At one moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to uproot it, to tear it down, or to destroy it;if that nation against which I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I planned to bring on it.Or at another moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to build up or to plant it;if it does evil in My sight by not obeying My voice, then I will relent of the good with which I said that I would bless it.

Now a certain man was sick: Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.And it was the Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.So the sisters sent word to Him, saying,“ Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.”But when Jesus heard this, He said,“ This sickness is not meant for death, but is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it.”( Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister, and Lazarus.)

For indeed he was sick to the point of death, but God had mercy on him, and not only on him but also on me, so that I would not have sorrow upon sorrow.Therefore I have sent him all the more eagerly, so that when you see him again you may rejoice and I may be less concerned about you.Receive him then in the Lord with all joy, and hold people like him in high regard,because he came close to death for the work of Christ, risking his life to compensate for your absence in your service to me.

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no activity, planning, knowledge, or wisdom in Sheol where you are going.

The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz concerning Judah and Jerusalem, which he saw during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

Then he sent Eliakim, who was in charge of the household, with Shebna the scribe and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz.
