七月十七日，方舟停在亚拉腊山上。

就前来见所罗巴伯和众族长，对他们说：“请让我们与你们一起建造吧！因为我们也像你们那样寻求你们的神。自从亚述王以撒哈顿把我们带上这里的日子以来，我们一直向他献祭。”

你们要小心，免得希西家怂恿你们说：耶和华必拯救我们。列国的神有哪一位曾拯救自己的国土脱离亚述王的手呢？

地下的阴间因你震动，并迎接你的来临；又因你而唤醒了所有曾在地上作过领袖的阴魂；又使所有曾在列国中作君王的，都离位站起来。

他们论到耶路撒冷的神，就好像世上万民的神一样，把他当作是人手所做的。

耶和华就差派一位使者，进入亚述王的军营中，把所有英勇的战士、官长和将帅，尽都消灭了。亚述王满面羞愧返回本国去了。他进入自己的神庙的时候，他亲生的儿子在那里用刀把他杀了。

“你们要对犹大王希西家这样说：不要给你所倚靠的神欺骗你说：耶路撒冷必不交在亚述王的手里。

也不要给希西家说服你们倚靠耶和华，说：耶和华必定拯救我们，这城也必不交在亚述王的手中。’

我列祖消灭的那些国的众神，有哪一个能拯救自己的子民脱离我的手呢？难道你们的神能拯救你们脱离我的手吗？

明亮之星、清晨之子啊！你怎么从天上坠落？你这倾覆列国的，怎么被砍倒在地上？

于是亚述王西拿基立拔营离开，回去住在尼尼微。一日，他正在他的神亚斯洛的庙中叩拜的时候，亚得米勒和沙利色用刀刺杀了他，然后逃到亚拉腊地。他的儿子以撒哈顿接续他作王。
