他手中拿著自己的杖，又從溪裡挑選了五塊光滑的石子，放在口袋裡，就是牧人用的那種袋子，手裡又拿著甩石的機弦，就向那非利士人走近去。那非利士人也向著大衛慢慢走過來，拿大盾牌的人在他前面走。那非利士人觀看，看見了大衛，就藐視他，因為他年紀還輕，面色紅潤，外貌英俊。那非利士人對大衛說：“難道我是一條狗嗎？你竟拿杖來攻擊我。”於是指著自己的神咒詛大衛。

現在，你可以和我主亞述王打賭，我給你二千匹戰馬，看你能否派出騎兵來騎牠們？

便．哈達又差派人去見亞哈說：“撒瑪利亞的塵土若是足夠跟從我的人每人捧一捧的話，願神明懲罰我，並且加倍懲罰我。”

因為他說：“我靠著我手的能力和我的智慧行事，因為我很聰明；我挪移了列國的地界，搶奪了他們積蓄的財寶，並且我像個勇士般使他們的居民全都俯伏下來。我的手伸到列國的財寶那裡，好像抓到鳥窩一樣；我取得了全地，好像人拾起被棄的雀蛋；沒有動翅膀的，沒有張嘴的，也沒有鳴叫的。”

耶和華啊！求你向我們施恩，求你向我們施恩；因為我們飽受藐視，到了極點。我們飽受那些安逸的人的嘲笑，和驕傲的人的藐視，到了極點。

有人靠車，有人靠馬。我們卻靠耶和華我們神的名。他們都屈身跌倒，我們卻起來，挺身而立。

便．哈達說：“如果他們是為了求和出來，你們要活捉他們；如果他們是為了爭戰出來，你們也要活捉他們。”

在他的兄弟和撒瑪利亞的軍隊面前，說：“這些軟弱的猶大人在作甚麼呢？想自己修築城牆嗎？想要獻祭嗎？想要在一天之內完成嗎？想要使廢土堆中被火燒過的石頭復活嗎？”亞捫人多比雅在參巴拉旁邊說：“這些人建造的，只要一隻狐狸走上去，石牆就崩塌。”“我們的神啊，求你垂聽，我們被藐視，求你使他們的毀謗歸到他們頭上，使他們在被擄之地成為掠物。不要遮蔽他們的罪孽，也不要從你面前塗抹他們的罪惡，因為他們在這些建造的人面前惹你發怒。”

又掠去耶和華殿裡和王宮的寶庫裡找到的所有金子、銀子和一切器皿，還有人質，就回撒瑪利亞去了。
