爾其慎之、免受希西家之勸曰、耶和華必救我儕也、夫列邦之神、有一曾拯其國、脫於亞述王手乎、

希西家言、爾必見拯於耶和華、爾勿聽焉、四方民所事之上帝、豈得救其國、脫於亞述王手乎、

希西家誘爾曰、主必救我儕、爾勿聽之、列國之諸神、何嘗有神救其國、脫於亞述王之手、

“ Do not let Hezekiah mislead you when he says,‘ The Lord will deliver us.’ Have the gods of any nations ever delivered their lands from the hand of the king of Assyria?

“‘ Don’t let Hezekiah fool you. He’s telling you a lie when he says,“ The Lord will save us.” Have the gods of any nations ever saved their lands from the power of the king of Assyria?

Beware lest Hezekiah mislead you by saying,“ The Lord will deliver us.” Has any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

“ Don’t let Hezekiah mislead you by saying,‘ The Lord will rescue us!’ Have the gods of any other nations ever saved their people from the king of Assyria?

Beware that Hezekiah does not mislead you by saying,‘ The LORD will rescue us.’ Has any one of the gods of the nations rescued his land from the power of the king of Assyria?

Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying,“ The Lord will deliver us.” Has any one of the gods of the nations delivered its land from the hand of the king of Assyria?

Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, Jehovah will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

Beware that Hezekiah does not mislead you by saying,‘ The Lord will deliver us.’ Has any one of the gods of the nations delivered his land from the power of the king of Assyria?

[ Beware] lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

Hezekiah is misleading you when he says,“ The LORD will rescue us.” Has any of the gods of the nations rescued his land from the power of the king of Assyria?

Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying,“ Yahweh will deliver us.” Have any of the gods of the nations delivered their lands from the hand of the king of Assyria?

and do not let Hezekiah lead you to rely on the Lord, saying,“ The Lord will certainly save us. This city will not be handed over to the king of Assyria!”

For the customs of the peoples are futile; For it is wood cut from the forest, The work of the hands of a craftsman with a cutting tool.They decorate the idol with silver and gold; They fasten it with nails and hammers So that it will not totter.They are like a scarecrow in a cucumber field, And they cannot speak; They must be carried, Because they cannot walk! Do not fear them, For they can do no harm, Nor can they do any good.”

Incline Your ear, Lord, and hear; open Your eyes, Lord, and see; and listen to all the words of Sennacherib, who sent them to taunt the living God.Truly, Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the countries and their lands,

Who have said,“ With our tongue we will prevail; Our lips are our own; who is lord over us?”

Did the gods of the nations which my fathers destroyed save them: Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the sons of Eden who were in Telassar?Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of the city of Sepharvaim, and of Hena and Ivvah?’ ”

How great are Your works, Lord! Your thoughts are very deep.A stupid person has no knowledge, Nor does a foolish person understand this:When the wicked sprouted up like grass And all who did injustice flourished, It was only that they might be destroyed forevermore.

And have I now come up without the Lord’s approval against this land to destroy it? The Lord said to me,‘ Go up against this land and destroy it.’ ” ’ ”

But the Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. The earth quakes at His wrath, And the nations cannot endure His indignation.This is what you shall say to them:“ The gods that did not make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from under these heavens.”It is He who made the earth by His power, Who established the world by His wisdom; And by His understanding He has stretched out the heavens.

But if you say to me,‘ We trust in the Lord our God,’ is it not He whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem,‘ You shall worship before this altar’?

For I know that the Lord is great And that our Lord is above all gods.Whatever the Lord pleases, He does, In heaven and on earth, in the seas and in all the ocean depths.

“ This is what you shall say to Hezekiah king of Judah:‘ Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you by saying,“ Jerusalem will not be handed over to the king of Assyria.”

Did the gods of the nations which my fathers destroyed save them: Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the sons of Eden who were in Telassar?Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of the city of Sepharvaim, and of Hena and Ivvah?’ ”

Now if you are ready, at the moment you hear the sound of the horn, flute, lyre, trigon, psaltery and bagpipe, and all kinds of musical instruments, to fall down and worship the statue that I have made, very well. But if you do not worship, you will immediately be thrown into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire; and what god is there who can rescue you from my hands?”

Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands at all able to save their land from my hand?Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed who could save his people from my hand, that your God would be able to save you from my hand?Now then, do not let Hezekiah deceive you or mislead you like this, and do not believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to save his people from my hand or from the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God save you from my hand?’ ”His servants spoke further against the Lord God and against His servant Hezekiah.He also wrote letters to insult the Lord God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying,“ As the gods of the nations of the lands have not saved their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah will not save His people from my hand.”

It is true, Lord; the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands,and have hurled their gods into the fire; for they were not gods, but only the work of human hands, wood and stone. So they have destroyed them.

Why should the nations say,“ Where, then, is their God?”But our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases.Their idols are silver and gold, The work of human hands.They have mouths, but they cannot speak; They have eyes, but they cannot see;They have ears, but they cannot hear; They have noses, but they cannot smell;They have hands, but they cannot feel; They have feet, but they cannot walk; They cannot make a sound with their throat.Those who make them will become like them, Everyone who trusts in them.

The idols of the nations are nothing but silver and gold, The work of human hands.They have mouths, but they do not speak; They have eyes, but they do not see;They have ears, but they do not hear, Nor is there any breath at all in their mouths.Those who make them will become like them, Yes, everyone who trusts in them.

Woe to him who says to a piece of wood,‘ Awake!’ To a mute stone,‘ Arise!’ That is your teacher? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet there is no breath at all inside it.But the Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before Him.”

Has any of the gods of the nations actually saved his land from the hand of the king of Assyria?Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah? Have they saved Samaria from my hand?Who among all the gods of the lands are there who have saved their land from my hand, that the Lord would save Jerusalem from my hand?’ ”
