亞述王之使臣、用猶大方言、大聲呼耶路撒冷城上之民、使之恐懼觳觫、以陷其城。

彼體胖心痴兮、厥口矜誇、睚眦其目、阻吾行兮、將顛越之予加。彼若獅兮、欲我是噬、若稚獅兮、耽耽穴視、耶和華兮、勃然而興、突如其來兮、譴彼災祲加之以利刃兮、救我於敵人、

臘沙基曰、爾當告希西家亞述大王云、爾誰恃、

故我尼布甲尼撒、頌美稱譽天王、其所為者惟秉大公、真實無妄、惟驕其志者、上帝使之卑微。

臘沙基遂立、用猶大方言、大聲呼曰、亞述大王之言、爾宜聽從、勿為希西家所誘、彼不能拯爾脫我手、希西家使爾恃耶和華、望其拯爾、及爾城垣、脫於亞述王手、爾勿聽焉、蓋亞述王曰、爾當與我修和、歸誠與我、厥後可各食其葡萄及無花果、各飲己井之水、迨我遷爾往彼異方、與爾故土相同、有穀有酒、有餅有蜜、葡萄園橄欖囿俱備、使爾永生不死。希西家言爾必見拯於耶和華、爾勿聽焉。

彼曰我之牧伯、可儗列王、我滅甲呢若迦基密、滅哈末若亞八、滅撒馬利亞、若大馬色、列國之偶像、較耶路撒冷、撒馬利亞尤眾、亦為我所翦滅。撒馬利亞我已滅其國家、毀其偶像、豈不能以此待耶路撒冷乎。主曰、我降災於郇山、及耶路撒冷、既畢其事、我必伐亞述王、汰其驕心、去其抑視。彼曰、我有智有能、克勝鄰邦、虜其財、得其地、惟自恃其能而為之。

我即稱爾曹為上帝、若至上者之子、亦不過民牧、終亦必亡、無異他人兮。

試觀亞述王、若利巴嫩之柏香木、其枝葱蒨、其幹扶疏、其杪高不可及、四面環溪、灌溉有資、故柯幹甚巨、高大無比、林叢諸木、無不得水之利、既蒙灌溉、超於群木、枝繁葉茂、長柯森發、飛鳥結巢於其枝、走獸生產於其蔭、大國之民、居於下、亦受其庇。根在水濱、故枝葉葱蒨、長柯森發、上帝囿之柏香木、不能出其上、松樹不及其長條、楓樹不及其弱幹、上帝囿中、眾木雖美、不得與之頡頏、枝葉向榮、葱蒨可悅、我使之然、上帝囿中諸木、亦嫉其高、耶和華曰、彼譬喬木、其葉蓁蓁、心志驕泰、

故我必使亞述王、率師襲之、若大河狂流、勢洶湧而逾岸、

彼立而呼、謂以色列軍曰、爾出陳列行伍、將欲何為、我屬非利士人、爾曹皆掃羅臣僕、汝簡一人、與我相迎。如彼能攻我殺我、我儕願為爾役、如我勝彼殺彼、爾曹當為我役、而服事我。又曰、以色列全軍、今日為我所侮、可使一人出、與我戰鬥。掃羅與以色列族、咸聞其言、驚懼特甚。○
