亞述王從拉吉差遣大元帥、總務長、參謀長到希西家王那裏，隨帶着重兵到耶路撒冷。他們上來、到了耶路撒冷；既已上來，就來站在上池的水溝旁、在漂布地的大路上。

因此、你看吧，主必使大河的水，又強又大的水，就是亞述王和他所有的威榮，起來淹沒他們；大水必漲起、高過一切水溝，它必橫流，漫過所有的河岸；並且必沖掃猶大，氾濫瀰漫，直到人的脖子；但主展開的翅膀必遮遍你廣闊的國土；上帝是與我們同在的。』

永恆主必使患難的日子臨到你和你的人民、以及你父的家，就是自從以法蓮脫離猶大以來、未曾有過這樣日子的——亞述王之侵犯。』

看哪，英雄豪傑們在外頭哀叫；和平之使者苦痛地哀哭。大路荒涼，過路人絕跡；人違犯了約，棄絕了證言，不以人為意。

你們的地土荒涼，你們的城市給火燒燬，你們的田地眼睜睜地被外族人侵吞，一片荒涼、像所多瑪之傾覆。僅存的錫安小姐就像葡萄園中的草棚，瓜田中的茅舍，被圍困的城市。
