In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah’s reign, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.

因此，主必使大河又強又大的水臨到他們，就是亞述王和他一切威榮，水必漲起來，高過所有的水道；水要氾濫，漫過所有的河岸；然後必沖入猶大，漲溢氾濫，直到頸項，以馬內利啊！它展開的翅膀必遮遍你廣闊的地土。”

“耶和華必使災難的日子臨到你和你的人民，以及你的父家，自從以法蓮脫離猶大以來，未曾有過這樣的日子，就是亞述王的入侵。”

看哪！他們的勇士在街上呼叫；和平的使者在痛苦哭泣。大路荒涼，過路的人絕跡；敵人背約，藐視約章，不尊重任何人。

亞述人來到亞葉，經過米磯崙；在密抹存放軍隊行裝。他們過了隘口，在迦巴住宿；拉瑪人戰兢，掃羅的基比亞人逃跑。迦琳的居民哪，高聲叫喊吧！萊煞人和可憐的亞拿突啊，留心聽吧！瑪得米那人逃跑，基柄的居民避難。就在今日，亞述王要停留在挪伯；他要揮拳攻擊錫安居民（“居民”原文作“女子”）的山，就是耶路撒冷的山。

你們的土地荒涼，你們的城鎮被火燒毀，你們的田地，在你們面前給外族人侵吞；被外族人傾覆之後，就荒涼了。僅存的錫安居民（“居民”原文作“女子”），好像葡萄園中的草棚，瓜田裡的茅屋，被圍困的城鎮。
