In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah’s reign, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.

因此，主必使大河又强又大的水临到他们，就是亚述王和他一切威荣，水必涨起来，高过所有的水道；水要泛滥，漫过所有的河岸；然后必冲入犹大，涨溢泛滥，直到颈项，以马内利啊！它展开的翅膀必遮遍你广阔的地土。”

“耶和华必使灾难的日子临到你和你的人民，以及你的父家，自从以法莲脱离犹大以来，未曾有过这样的日子，就是亚述王的入侵。”

看哪！他们的勇士在街上呼叫；和平的使者在痛苦哭泣。大路荒凉，过路的人绝迹；敌人背约，藐视约章，不尊重任何人。

亚述人来到亚叶，经过米矶仑；在密抹存放军队行装。他们过了隘口，在迦巴住宿；拉玛人战兢，扫罗的基比亚人逃跑。迦琳的居民哪，高声叫喊吧！莱煞人和可怜的亚拿突啊，留心听吧！玛得米那人逃跑，基柄的居民避难。就在今日，亚述王要停留在挪伯；他要挥拳攻击锡安居民（“居民”原文作“女子”）的山，就是耶路撒冷的山。

你们的土地荒凉，你们的城镇被火烧毁，你们的田地，在你们面前给外族人侵吞；被外族人倾覆之后，就荒凉了。仅存的锡安居民（“居民”原文作“女子”），好像葡萄园中的草棚，瓜田里的茅屋，被围困的城镇。
