In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah’s reign, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.

我要差來亞述王的軍隊，使他們像幼發拉底河的洪流一樣洶湧而來，淹沒一切水道，漫過河岸，席捲猶大，使整個猶大幾遭滅頂之災。他必展開雙翼橫掃你的土地。」願上帝與我們同在！

「之後，耶和華必讓亞述王來攻擊你們。這是你全家及你的人民自以色列與猶大分裂以來從未有的日子。

看啊，他們的勇士在街上哀號，求和的使者悲痛哭泣。大路荒涼，行人絕跡。條約被廢，城邑被棄，人民遭藐視。

亞述大軍攻佔了亞葉，穿過米磯崙，把輜重存放在密抹。他們過了關口，在迦巴宿營。拉瑪人戰戰兢兢，掃羅的鄉親基比亞人倉皇逃跑。迦琳人啊，高聲喊叫吧！萊煞人啊，可憐的亞拿突人啊，留心聽吧！瑪得米納人逃跑，基柄人躲藏。那時，亞述王必屯兵挪伯，向著錫安城的山嶺，向著耶路撒冷的山丘摩拳擦掌。

你們的土地荒涼，城邑化為灰燼。你們親眼目睹自己的田園被外族人侵吞、毀壞、變成不毛之地。僅存的錫安城也像葡萄園裡的草棚、瓜田中的茅舍、被困無援的孤城。
