The desert owl and screech owl will possess it; the great owl and the raven will nest there. God will stretch out over Edom the measuring line of chaos and the plumb line of desolation.

我必使巴比倫做豪豬的住處，又變為水沼之地；我必用剿滅的掃箒掃淨他：這是萬軍之永恆主發神諭說的。』

那裏必永無居民，世世代代無人居住；遊牧民族不在那裏搭帳棚；牧羊的人不使羊羣躺在那裏。躺在那裏的、只有住在曠野的猛獸；滿了他們房屋的、只有吼叫陰森的動物；鴕鳥住在那裏；野山羊在那裏跳躍。豺狼必在他們的衛所裏呼號；野狗必在豪華的宮殿中吼叫；其時候將近到了；其日期必不久延。

有一位大有力量的天使舉起一塊石頭來、像大磨石、丟在海裏、說：『巴比倫大城也必這樣砰磅一下被丟下，決不能再看到了！彈絃琴、作樂、吹簫笛、吹號筒者、的聲音在你中間決不能再聽到了；各手工業各手藝人在你中間決不能再看到了；石磨的聲音在你中間決不能再聽到了；燈光決不能再照耀於你中間了；新郎新娘的聲音在你中間決不能再聽到了；因為你的商人曾經是地上的大人物；因為列國都曾在你的邪術中受了迷惑。』

他又擊敗了摩押人，使他們躺在地上，用繩子量量他們：把量二繩長的殺死，讓量一繩長的活着；摩押人就臣服於大衛，帶着禮物而來。

混混亂亂的都市破敗了；各家關門閉戶，使人不得進去。

而不愛以掃：我使以掃的山地荒涼，將他的地業交給曠野的野狗。以東若說：『我們現在雖被毁壞，卻必重建廢墟』，萬軍之永恆主卻這麼說：『他們儘管建造，我卻必拆毁，直到他們被叫做邪惡之境地、永恆主永遠惱怒的人民。』
