Those who walk righteously and speak what is right, who reject gain from extortion and keep their hands from accepting bribes, who stop their ears against plots of murder and shut their eyes against contemplating evil—

People must do what is right. They must be honest and tell the truth. They must not get rich by cheating others. Their hands must not receive money from those who want special favors. They must not let their ears listen to plans to commit murder. They must close their eyes to even thinking about doing what is evil.

He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, who despises the gain of oppressions, who shakes his hands, lest they hold a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed and shuts his eyes from looking on evil,

Those who are honest and fair, who refuse to profit by fraud, who stay far away from bribes, who refuse to listen to those who plot murder, who shut their eyes to all enticement to do wrong—

One who walks righteously and speaks with integrity, One who rejects unjust gain And shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe; One who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed And shuts his eyes from looking at evil;

He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, He who despises the gain of oppressions, Who gestures with his hands, refusing bribes, Who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed, And shuts his eyes from seeing evil:

He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from taking a bribe, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from looking upon evil:

The one who lives uprightly and speaks honestly; the one who refuses to profit from oppressive measures and rejects a bribe; the one who does not plot violent crimes and does not seek to harm others–

He who walks righteously and speaks blamelessly, he who despises the gain of oppressions, who gestures with his hands, refusing to take a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of blood, and shuts his eyes from looking at evil—

Turn my eyes from looking at what is worthless; give me life in your ways.

Little children, let no one deceive you. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.

How happy is the one who does not walk in the advice of the wicked or stand in the pathway with sinners or sit in the company of mockers!Instead, his delight is in the LORD’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night.He is like a tree planted beside flowing streams that bears its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

They have eyes full of adultery that never stop looking for sin. They seduce unstable people and have hearts trained in greed. Children under a curse!They have gone astray by abandoning the straight path and have followed the path of Balaam, the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of wickednessbut received a rebuke for his lawlessness: A speechless donkey spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.

LORD, who can dwell in your tent? Who can live on your holy mountain?The one who lives blamelessly, practices righteousness, and acknowledges the truth in his heart—

But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord,“ Look, I’ll give half of my possessions to the poor, Lord. And if I have extorted anything from anyone, I’ll pay back four times as much.”

Look! The pay that you withheld from the workers who mowed your fields cries out, and the outcry of the harvesters has reached the ears of the Lord of Armies.

When Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money,saying,“ Give me this power also so that anyone I lay hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.”But Peter told him,“ May your silver be destroyed with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!You have no part or share in this matter, because your heart is not right before God.Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, your heart’s intent may be forgiven.For I see you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by wickedness.”

Do not deny justice or show partiality to anyone. Do not accept a bribe, for it blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous.

True instruction was in his mouth, and nothing wrong was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and integrity and turned many from iniquity.

Both were righteous in God’s sight, living without blame according to all the commands and requirements of the Lord.

Don’t participate in the fruitless works of darkness, but instead expose them.For it is shameful even to mention what is done by them in secret.Everything exposed by the light is made visible,

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age,

eternal life to those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality;

Here I am. Bring charges against me before the LORD and his anointed: Whose ox or donkey have I taken? Who have I wronged or mistreated? Who gave me a bribe to overlook something? I will return it to you.”

Then Moses became angry and said to the LORD,“ Don’t respect their offering. I have not taken one donkey from them or mistreated a single one of them.”

Instead, take the spear and the water jug by his head, and let’s go.”

“ You must not deny justice to a poor person among you in his lawsuit.Stay far away from a false accusation. Do not kill the innocent and the just, because I will not justify the guilty.You must not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the clear-sighted and corrupts the words of the righteous.You must not oppress a resident alien; you yourselves know how it feels to be a resident alien because you were resident aliens in the land of Egypt.

Then your light will appear like the dawn, and your recovery will come quickly. Your righteousness will go before you, and the LORD’s glory will be your rear guard.

Do not destroy me along with sinners, or my life along with men of bloodshedin whose hands are evil schemes and whose right hands are filled with bribes.But I live with integrity; redeem me and be gracious to me.

This is what the LORD says: Preserve justice and do what is right, for my salvation is coming soon, and my righteousness will be revealed.Happy is the person who does this, the son of man who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.

He does not eat at the mountain shrines or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor’s wife.He doesn’t oppress anyone, hold collateral, or commit robbery. He gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing.He keeps his hand from harming the poor, not taking interest or profit on a loan. He practices my ordinances and follows my statutes. Such a person will not die for his father’s iniquity. He will certainly live.

If I have dismissed the case of my male or female servants when they made a complaint against me,what could I do when God stands up to judge? How should I answer him when he calls me to account?Did not the one who made me in the womb also make them? Did not the same God form us both in the womb?If I have refused the wishes of the poor or let the widow’s eyes go blind,if I have eaten my few crumbs alone without letting the fatherless eat any of it—for from my youth, I raised him as his father, and since the day I was born I guided the widow—if I have seen anyone dying for lack of clothing or a needy person without a cloak,if he did not bless me while warming himself with the fleece from my sheep,if I ever cast my vote against a fatherless child when I saw that I had support in the city gate,then let my shoulder blade fall from my back, and my arm be pulled from its socket.For disaster from God terrifies me, and because of his majesty I could not do these things.If I placed my confidence in gold or called fine gold my trust,if I have rejoiced because my wealth is great or because my own hand has acquired so much,

How happy are those who uphold justice, who practice righteousness at all times.

Both hands are good at accomplishing evil: the official and the judge demand a bribe; when the powerful man communicates his evil desire, they plot it together.The best of them is like a brier; the most upright is worse than a hedge of thorns. The day of your watchmen, the day of your punishment, is coming; at this time their panic is here.

Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they asked him,“ Teacher, what should we do?”He told them,“ Don’t collect any more than what you have been authorized.”Some soldiers also questioned him,“ What should we do?” He said to them,“ Don’t take money from anyone by force or false accusation, and be satisfied with your wages.”

Vindicate me, LORD, because I have lived with integrity and have trusted in the LORD without wavering.Test me, LORD, and try me; examine my heart and mind.

The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not appealed to what is false, and who has not sworn deceitfully.He will receive blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

After seriously considering the matter, I accused the nobles and officials, saying to them,“ Each of you is charging his countrymen interest.” So I called a large assembly against themand said,“ We have done our best to buy back our Jewish countrymen who were sold to foreigners, but now you sell your own countrymen, and we have to buy them back.” They remained silent and could not say a word.Then I said,“ What you are doing isn’t right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God and not invite the reproach of our foreign enemies?Even I, as well as my brothers and my servants, have been lending them money and grain. Please, let’s stop charging this interest.Return their fields, vineyards, olive groves, and houses to them immediately, along with the percentage of the money, grain, new wine, and fresh oil that you have been assessing them.”They responded,“ We will return these things and require nothing more from them. We will do as you say.” So I summoned the priests and made everyone take an oath to do this.I also shook the folds of my robe and said,“ May God likewise shake from his house and property everyone who doesn’t keep this promise. May he be shaken out and have nothing!” The whole assembly said,“ Amen,” and they praised the LORD. Then the people did as they had promised.

so they said to him,“ Look, this is the day the LORD told you about:‘ I will hand your enemy over to you so you can do to him whatever you desire.’” Then David got up and secretly cut off the corner of Saul’s robe.Afterward, David’s conscience bothered him because he had cut off the corner of Saul’s robe.He said to his men,“ As the LORD is my witness, I would never do such a thing to my lord, the LORD’s anointed. I will never lift my hand against him, since he is the LORD’s anointed.”With these words David persuaded his men, and he did not let them rise up against Saul. Then Saul left the cave and went on his way.

I do not sit with the worthless or associate with hypocrites.I hate a crowd of evildoers, and I do not sit with the wicked.I wash my hands in innocence and go around your altar, LORD,

Have I rejoiced over my enemy’s distress, or become excited when trouble came his way?I have not allowed my mouth to sin by asking for his life with a curse.Haven’t the members of my household said,“ Who is there who has not had enough to eat at Job’s table?”

Then Johanan son of Kareah suggested to Gedaliah in private at Mizpah,“ Let me go kill Ishmael son of Nethaniah. No one will know it. Why should he kill you and allow all of Judah that has gathered around you to scatter and the remnant of Judah to perish?”But Gedaliah son of Ahikam responded to Johanan son of Kareah,“ Don’t do that! What you’re saying about Ishmael is a lie.”

for wicked men live among my people. They watch like hunters lying in wait. They set a trap; they catch men.Like a cage full of birds, so their houses are full of deceit. Therefore they have grown powerful and rich.They have become fat and sleek. They have also excelled in evil matters. They have not taken up cases, such as the case of the fatherless, so they might prosper, and they have not defended the rights of the needy.
