巴比伦素来为列国的荣耀，为迦勒底人所矜夸的华美，必像神所倾覆的所多玛、蛾摩拉一样。其内必永无人烟，世世代代无人居住。阿拉伯人也不在那里支搭帐棚；牧羊的人也不使羊群卧在那里。只有旷野的走兽卧在那里；咆哮的兽满了房屋。鸵鸟住在那里；野山羊在那里跳舞。豺狼必在它宫中呼号；野狗必在它华美殿内吼叫。巴比伦受罚的时候临近；它的日子必不长久。

“你们看见耶路撒冷被兵围困，就可知道它成荒场的日子近了。

他们要倒在刀下，又被掳到各国去。耶路撒冷要被外邦人践踏，直到外邦人的日期满了。”

使野地的走兽有水喝，野驴得解其渴。

他大声喊着说：“巴比伦大城倾倒了！倾倒了！成了鬼魔的住处和各样污秽之灵的巢穴，并各样污秽可憎之雀鸟的巢穴。因为列国都被她邪淫大怒的酒倾倒了。地上的君王与她行淫；地上的客商因她奢华太过就发了财。”

鹈鹕、箭猪却要得为业；猫头鹰、乌鸦要住在其间。耶和华必将空虚的准绳，混沌的线铊，拉在其上。以东人要召贵胄来治国；那里却无一个，首领也都归于无有。以东的宫殿要长荆棘；保障要长蒺藜和刺草；要作野狗的住处，鸵鸟的居所。旷野的走兽要和豺狼相遇；野山羊要与伴偶对叫。夜间的怪物必在那里栖身，自找安歇之处。箭蛇要在那里做窝，下蛋，抱蛋，生子，聚子在其影下；鹞鹰各与伴偶聚集在那里。你们要查考宣读耶和华的书。这都无一缺少，无一没有伴偶；因为我的口已经吩咐，他的灵将它们聚集。他也为它们拈阄，又亲手用准绳给它们分地；它们必永得为业，世世代代住在其间。

我就说：“主啊，这到几时为止呢？”他说：“直到城邑荒凉，无人居住，房屋空闲无人，地土极其荒凉。

我耳闻万军之耶和华说：“必有许多又大又美的房屋成为荒凉，无人居住。

用火焚烧耶和华的殿和王宫，又焚烧耶路撒冷的房屋，就是各大户家的房屋。

看哪，耶和华使地空虚，变为荒凉；又翻转大地，将居民分散。那时百姓怎样，祭司也怎样；仆人怎样，主人也怎样；婢女怎样，主母也怎样；买物的怎样，卖物的也怎样；放债的怎样，借债的也怎样；取利的怎样，出利的也怎样。地必全然空虚，尽都荒凉；因为这话是耶和华说的。
