They travel to Egypt, whose help is totally useless. That’s why I call it Rahab the Do- Nothing.

Egypt’s help is worthless and empty; therefore I have called her“ Rahab who sits still.”

Egypt’s promises are worthless! Therefore, I call her Rahab— the Harmless Dragon.

Egypt’s help is completely worthless; therefore, I call her: Rahab Who Just Sits.

Even Egypt, whose help is vain and empty. Therefore, I have called her“ Rahab who has been exterminated.”

For the Egyptians shall help in vain and to no purpose. Therefore I have called her Rahab-Hem-Shebeth.

For Egypt helpeth in vain, and to no purpose: therefore have I called her Rahab that sitteth still.

Egypt’s help is completely worthless; therefore, I call her: Rahab Who Just Sits.

Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?

Awake, awake, arm of the Lord, clothe yourself with strength! Awake, as in days gone by, as in generations of old. Was it not you who cut Rahab to pieces, who pierced that monster through?

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the Lord.Yet he too is wise and can bring disaster; he does not take back his words. He will rise up against that wicked nation, against those who help evildoers.But the Egyptians are mere mortals and not God; their horses are flesh and not spirit. When the Lord stretches out his hand, those who help will stumble, those who are helped will fall; all will perish together.This is what the Lord says to me:“ As a lion growls, a great lion over its prey— and though a whole band of shepherds is called together against it, it is not frightened by their shouts or disturbed by their clamor— so the Lord Almighty will come down to do battle on Mount Zion and on its heights.Like birds hovering overhead, the Lord Almighty will shield Jerusalem; he will shield it and deliver it, he will‘ pass over’ it and will rescue it.”

to whom he said,“ This is the resting place, let the weary rest”; and,“ This is the place of repose”— but they would not listen.

it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

“ This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Tell the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of me,‘ Pharaoh’s army, which has marched out to support you, will go back to its own land, to Egypt.

From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was quiet—when you, God, rose up to judge, to save all the afflicted of the land.

Moses answered the people,“ Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.

Say to him,‘ Be careful, keep calm and don’t be afraid. Do not lose heart because of these two smoldering stubs of firewood— because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah.

“ When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his sores, then Ephraim turned to Assyria, and sent to the great king for help. But he is not able to cure you, not able to heal your sores.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans.It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.

This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:“ In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.
