爾惟法老之勢力是恃、埃及之庇蔭是賴、則必含羞蒙恥、

爾恃法老之勢力、終必抱愧、望於伊及得蔭庇、定蒙羞辱、

But looking to Pharaoh will only bring them shame. Asking Egypt for help will bring them dishonor.

Therefore shall the protection of Pharaoh turn to your shame, and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your humiliation.

But by trusting Pharaoh, you will be humiliated, and by depending on him, you will be disgraced.

But Pharaoh’s protection will become your shame, and refuge in Egypt’s shadow your humiliation.

Therefore the safety of Pharaoh will be your shame, And the shelter in the shadow of Egypt, your humiliation.

Therefore the strength of Pharaoh Shall be your shame, And trust in the shadow of Egypt Shall be your humiliation.

Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.

But Pharaoh’s protection will become your shame, and refuge in Egypt’s shadow your disgrace.

Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt[ your] confusion.

But Pharaoh’s protection will bring you nothing but shame, and the safety of Egypt’s protective shade nothing but humiliation.

Therefore the strength of Pharaoh will be your shame, and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.

Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt will be dismayed and put to shame.

This is what the Lord says:“ Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord.That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.

And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

As Scripture says,“ Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”

Pharaoh’s army had marched out of Egypt, and when the Babylonians who were besieging Jerusalem heard the report about them, they withdrew from Jerusalem.Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet:“ This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Tell the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of me,‘ Pharaoh’s army, which has marched out to support you, will go back to its own land, to Egypt.Then the Babylonians will return and attack this city; they will capture it and burn it down.’“ This is what the Lord says: Do not deceive yourselves, thinking,‘ The Babylonians will surely leave us.’ They will not!Even if you were to defeat the entire Babylonian army that is attacking you and only wounded men were left in their tents, they would come out and burn this city down.”

Look, I know you are depending on Egypt, that splintered reed of a staff, which pierces the hand of anyone who leans on it! Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who depend on him.
