You send rain on the mountains from your heavenly home, and you fill the earth with the fruit of your labor.You cause grass to grow for the livestock and plants for people to use. You allow them to produce food from the earth—

“ Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”

Ask the Lord for rain in the spring, for he makes the storm clouds. And he will send showers of rain so every field becomes a lush pasture.

May our sons flourish in their youth like well nurtured plants. May our daughters be like graceful pillars, carved to beautify a palace.May our barns be filled with crops of every kind. May there be no enemy breaking through our walls, no going into captivity, no cries of alarm in our town squares.

The Lord who made you and helps you says: Do not be afraid, O Jacob, my servant, O dear Israel, my chosen one.For I will pour out water to quench your thirst and to irrigate your parched fields. And I will pour out my Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your children.They will thrive like watered grass, like willows on a riverbank.

Don’t be afraid, O land. Be glad now and rejoice, for the Lord has done great things.Don’t be afraid, you animals of the field, for the wilderness pastures will soon be green. The trees will again be filled with fruit; fig trees and grapevines will be loaded down once more.Rejoice, you people of Jerusalem! Rejoice in the Lord your God! For the rain he sends demonstrates his faithfulness. Once more the autumn rains will come, as well as the rains of spring.The threshing floors will again be piled high with grain, and the presses will overflow with new wine and olive oil.The Lord says,“ I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts, the hopping locusts, the stripping locusts, and the cutting locusts. It was I who sent this great destroying army against you.Once again you will have all the food you want, and you will praise the Lord your God, who does these miracles for you. Never again will my people be disgraced.

“ Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols.And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.

The seven healthy cows and the seven healthy heads of grain both represent seven years of prosperity.

But in that day, the branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious; the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of all who survive in Israel.

“ The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry.It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

“ But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture.

“ In that day, I will answer,” says the Lord.“ I will answer the sky as it pleads for clouds. And the sky will answer the earth with rain.Then the earth will answer the thirsty cries of the grain, the grapevines, and the olive trees. And they in turn will answer,‘ Jezreel’—‘ God plants!’At that time I will plant a crop of Israelites and raise them for myself. I will show love to those I called‘ Not loved.’ And to those I called‘ Not my people,’ I will say,‘ Now you are my people.’ And they will reply,‘ You are our God!’”

Can any of the worthless foreign gods send us rain? Does it fall from the sky by itself? No, you are the one, O Lord our God! Only you can do such things. So we will wait for you to help us.

I will make it a wild place where the vines are not pruned and the ground is not hoed, a place overgrown with briers and thorns. I will command the clouds to drop no rain on it.

“ I kept the rain from falling when your crops needed it the most. I sent rain on one town but withheld it from another. Rain fell on one field, while another field withered away.People staggered from town to town looking for water, but there was never enough. But still you would not return to me,” says the Lord.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

But he also turns deserts into pools of water, the dry land into springs of water.He brings the hungry to settle there and to build their cities.They sow their fields, plant their vineyards, and harvest their bumper crops.How he blesses them!
