一个敌人就可以威吓你们一千个人，若五个敌人威吓你们，你们都要逃跑了！以致你们所剩下的，必孤立如同山顶上的旗杆，冈陵上的旗帜。

一个人的威胁，会使千人逃跑；五个人的威胁，会使你们逃跑得所剩无几，如山顶上的旗杆，又如冈陵上的旗帜。

有一人以驅逐、則爾之千軍皆遁、有五人以追襲、則爾之全師俱奔、即有孑遺、如山巔孤竹、如嶺上單旌。

一人叱喝、則千人逃、五人叱喝、則爾盡遁、致爾曹所遺者、僅如山巔之望杆、岡上之號旗、

A thousand will flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you will all flee away, till you are left like a flagstaff on a mountaintop, like a banner on a hill.”

When one of them dares you to fight, a thousand of you will run away. When five of them dare you, all of you will run away. So few of you will be left that you will be like a flagpole on top of a mountain. You will be like only one banner on a hill.”

The LORD shall cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies: thou shalt go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them: and shalt be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.

And upon them that are left[ alive] of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.

How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up?

And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the LORD your God, he[ it is] that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you.

The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every[ branch] that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.I am the vine, ye[ are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast[ them] into the fire, and they are burned.

That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and[ certain] men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province[ are] in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also[ is] broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

Your country[ is] desolate, your cities[ are] burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and[ it is] desolate, as overthrown by strangers.And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.

When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken off: the women come,[ and] set them on fire: for it[ is] a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them, and he that formed them will shew them no favour.

I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.

And it shall come to pass,[ that] in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off[ and] die; but the third shall be left therein.And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It[ is] my people: and they shall say, The LORD[ is] my God.

But yet in it[ shall be] a tenth, and[ it] shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance[ is] in them, when they cast[ their leaves: so] the holy seed[ shall be] the substance thereof.

And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day[ is] a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and[ there is] not strength to bring forth.It may be the LORD thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up[ thy] prayer for the remnant that is left.

For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained[ but] wounded men among them,[ yet] should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
