一個人的威脅，會使千人逃跑；五個人的威脅，會使你們逃跑得所剩無幾，如山頂上的旗杆，又如岡陵上的旗幟。

一人叱喝，必令千人逃跑；五人叱喝，你们都必逃跑；以致剩下的，好像山顶的旗杆，冈上的大旗。

一个敌人就可以威吓你们一千个人，若五个敌人威吓你们，你们都要逃跑了！以致你们所剩下的，必孤立如同山顶上的旗杆，冈陵上的旗帜。

一人叱咤、而千人逃、五人叱咤、而眾人遁、迨爾所遺、如山巔之竿、嶺上之旌、

有一人以驅逐、則爾之千軍皆遁、有五人以追襲、則爾之全師俱奔、即有孑遺、如山巔孤竹、如嶺上單旌。

一人叱喝、則千人逃、五人叱喝、則爾盡遁、致爾曹所遺者、僅如山巔之望杆、岡上之號旗、

A thousand will flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you will all flee away, till you are left like a flagstaff on a mountaintop, like a banner on a hill.”

When one of them dares you to fight, a thousand of you will run away. When five of them dare you, all of you will run away. So few of you will be left that you will be like a flagpole on top of a mountain. You will be like only one banner on a hill.”

A thousand shall flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you shall flee, till you are left like a flagstaff on the top of a mountain, like a signal on a hill.

One of them will chase a thousand of you. Five of them will make all of you flee. You will be left like a lonely flagpole on a hill or a tattered banner on a distant mountaintop.”

One thousand will flee at the threat of one man; You will flee at the threat of five, Until you are left like a signal post on a mountain top, And like a flag on a hill.

惡人雖沒有人追趕也會逃跑；義人卻像少壯獅子無所懼怕。

但如果有些樹枝被折下來，而你這野橄欖枝被接在其上，並且一同有份於那橄欖樹根的豐富養分，

所有屬於我而不結果子的枝條，他就除掉；而所有結果子的，他就修剪乾淨，好讓它結出更多的果子。藉著我給你們講的話語，你們已經乾淨了。你們當住在我裡面，我就住在你們裡面。枝條如果不留在葡萄樹上，就不能由自己結出果子；照樣，你們如果不住在我裡面，你們也是如此。「我就是葡萄樹，你們是枝條。那住在我裡面、我也在他裡面的，他才結出很多果子，因為沒有我，你們什麼也不能做。一個人如果不住在我裡面，就像枝條被丟在外面枯乾了，然後被收集扔進火裡焚燒。

你們的國土荒涼，你們的城市被火燒毀；你們的田地，在你們面前被外族人吞噬，荒涼得就像被外族人覆滅了一樣。只有錫安城留了下來，像葡萄園中的棚子，像瓜田裡的茅屋，又像被圍困的城邑。

因為那時將有大患難。這樣的患難從世界開始直到如今，從來沒有發生過，也絕不再發生。如果那些日子不被減少，就沒有一個人能得救。可是為了那些蒙揀選的人，那些日子將被減少。

枝條枯乾時，必被折斷，婦女要來，拿去燒火。因為這百姓愚昧，所以造他們的必不憐憫他們，塑造他們的必不恩待他們。

耶和華宣告：「全地的人必有三分之二被剪除而死，有三分之一存留下來。我必使這三分之一進入火中，熬煉他們如熬煉銀子，察驗他們如察驗金子。他們將呼求我的名，我必應允他們。我必說：『他們是我的子民。』他們也必說：『耶和華是我們的神。』」

這地必被再次焚燒，其中還會有十分之一的人存留，就像黃連樹和橡樹被砍伐，其中還會有樹樁存留；聖潔的後裔就是這樹樁。」

他們對他說：「希西加如此說：『今天是一個患難、責罰、恥辱的日子；因為嬰孩已經臨盆，我們卻沒有力氣生下來。將軍的主人亞述王派他來辱罵永生的神，或許耶和華你的神聽見了他的話，就會斥責所聽見的那些話。因此，求你為幸存的餘剩之民獻上禱告。』」
