A thousand will flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you will all flee away, till you are left like a flagstaff on a mountaintop, like a banner on a hill.”

When one of them dares you to fight, a thousand of you will run away. When five of them dare you, all of you will run away. So few of you will be left that you will be like a flagpole on top of a mountain. You will be like only one banner on a hill.”

One of them will chase a thousand of you. Five of them will make all of you flee. You will be left like a lonely flagpole on a hill or a tattered banner on a distant mountaintop.”

恶人虽没有人追赶也会逃跑；义人却像少壮狮子无所惧怕。

但如果有些树枝被折下来，而你这野橄榄枝被接在其上，并且一同有份于那橄榄树根的丰富养分，

所有属于我而不结果子的枝条，他就除掉；而所有结果子的，他就修剪干净，好让它结出更多的果子。藉着我给你们讲的话语，你们已经干净了。你们当住在我里面，我就住在你们里面。枝条如果不留在葡萄树上，就不能由自己结出果子；照样，你们如果不住在我里面，你们也是如此。“我就是葡萄树，你们是枝条。那住在我里面、我也在他里面的，他才结出很多果子，因为没有我，你们什么也不能做。一个人如果不住在我里面，就像枝条被丢在外面枯干了，然后被收集扔进火里焚烧。

你们的国土荒凉，你们的城市被火烧毁；你们的田地，在你们面前被外族人吞噬，荒凉得就像被外族人覆灭了一样。只有锡安城留了下来，像葡萄园中的棚子，像瓜田里的茅屋，又像被围困的城邑。

因为那时将有大患难。这样的患难从世界开始直到如今，从来没有发生过，也绝不再发生。如果那些日子不被减少，就没有一个人能得救。可是为了那些蒙拣选的人，那些日子将被减少。

枝条枯干时，必被折断，妇女要来，拿去烧火。因为这百姓愚昧，所以造他们的必不怜悯他们，塑造他们的必不恩待他们。

这地必被再次焚烧，其中还会有十分之一的人存留，就像黄连树和橡树被砍伐，其中还会有树桩存留；圣洁的后裔就是这树桩。”

他们对他说：“希西加如此说：‘今天是一个患难、责罚、耻辱的日子；因为婴孩已经临盆，我们却没有力气生下来。将军的主人亚述王派他来辱骂永生的神，或许耶和华你的神听见了他的话，就会斥责所听见的那些话。因此，求你为幸存的余剩之民献上祷告。’”
