This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:“ Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it.

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me.

And this righteousness will bring peace. Yes, it will bring quietness and confidence forever.

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.

Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me.

Those who trust in the Lord are as secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will endure forever.Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people, both now and forever.

Egypt’s promises are worthless! Therefore, I call her Rahab— the Harmless Dragon.

Don’t you remember what happened to the Ethiopians and Libyans and their vast army, with all of their chariots and charioteers? At that time you relied on the Lord, and he handed them over to you.

They cried out to God during the battle, and he answered their prayer because they trusted in him. So the Hagrites and all their allies were defeated.

But stop using this phrase,‘ prophecy from the Lord.’ For people are using it to give authority to their own ideas, turning upside down the words of our God, the living God, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

Forget all this gloom. Get off your narrow path. Stop telling us about your‘ Holy One of Israel.’”

We spread our branches west to the Mediterranean Sea; our shoots spread east to the Euphrates River.But now, why have you broken down our walls so that all who pass by may steal our fruit?The wild boar from the forest devours it, and the wild animals feed on it.
