They have taught their tongue to speak lies. They weary themselves commiting iniquity.Your habitation is in the middle of deceit. Through deceit, they refuse to know me,” says Yahweh.Therefore Yahweh of Armies says,“ Behold, I will melt them and test them; for how should I deal with the daughter of my people?Their tongue is a deadly arrow. It speaks deceit. One speaks peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart, he waits to ambush him.

In you have they taken bribes to shed blood. You have taken interest and increase, and you have greedily gained of your neighbors by oppression, and have forgotten me,” says the Lord Yahweh.

Then they spat in his face and beat him with their fists, and some slapped him,

I said,“ Please listen, you heads of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel: Isn’t it for you to know justice?You who hate the good, and love the evil; who tear off their skin, and their flesh from off their bones;who also eat the flesh of my people, and peel their skin from off them, and break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as meat within the cauldron.

Some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to beat him with fists, and to tell him,“ Prophesy!” The officers struck him with the palms of their hands.

Their hands are on that which is evil to do it diligently. The ruler and judge ask for a bribe; and the powerful man dictates the evil desire of his soul. Thus they conspire together.The best of them is like a brier. The most upright is worse than a thorn hedge. The day of your watchmen, even your visitation, has come; now is the time of their confusion.Don’t trust in a neighbor. Don’t put confidence in a friend. With the woman lying in your embrace, be careful of the words of your mouth!For the son dishonors the father, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter- in- law against her mother- in- law; a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.

Her leaders judge for bribes, and her priests teach for a price, and her prophets of it tell fortunes for money: yet they lean on Yahweh, and say,“ Isn’t Yahweh among us? No disaster will come on us.”

“ Thus has Yahweh of Armies spoken, saying,‘ Execute true judgment, and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother.Don’t oppress the widow, nor the fatherless, the foreigner, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart.’But they refused to listen, and turned their backs, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear.

There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, the sort of error which proceeds from the ruler.Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in a low place.I have seen servants on horses, and princes walking like servants on the earth.

Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Armies.

“‘“ Behold, the princes of Israel, everyone according to his power, have been in you to shed blood.In you have they treated father and mother with contempt. Among you they have oppressed the foreigner. In you they have wronged the fatherless and the widow.

I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and don’t fear me,” says Yahweh of Armies.

“‘ You shall rise up before the gray head and honor the face of the elderly; and you shall fear your God. I am Yahweh.

Listen to this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who tell their husbands,“ Bring us drinks!”

They stripped him, and put a scarlet robe on him.They braided a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying,“ Hail, King of the Jews!”They spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head.

The envy also of Ephraim will depart, and those who persecute Judah will be cut off. Ephraim won’t envy Judah, and Judah won’t persecute Ephraim.

“ But now those who are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I considered unworthy to put with my sheep dogs.Of what use is the strength of their hands to me, men in whom ripe age has perished?They are gaunt from lack and famine. They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of waste and desolation.They pluck salt herbs by the bushes. The roots of the broom tree are their food.They are driven out from among men. They cry after them as after a thief;So that they dwell in frightful valleys, and in holes of the earth and of the rocks.They bray among the bushes. They are gathered together under the nettles.They are children of fools, yes, children of wicked men. They were flogged out of the land.“ Now I have become their song. Yes, I am a byword to them.They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, and don’t hesitate to spit in my face.For he has untied his cord, and afflicted me; and they have thrown off restraint before me.On my right hand rise the rabble. They thrust aside my feet, They cast up against me their ways of destruction.

Ah sinful nation, a people loaded with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, children who deal corruptly! They have forsaken Yahweh. They have despised the Holy One of Israel. They are estranged and backward.

But your eyes and your heart are only for your covetousness, for shedding innocent blood, for oppression, and for doing violence.”

Having blindfolded him, they struck him on the face and asked him,“ Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?”

When king David came to Bahurim, behold, a man of the family of Saul’s house came out, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera. He came out and cursed as he came.He cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David, and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.Shimei said when he cursed,“ Be gone, be gone, you man of blood, and wicked fellow!Yahweh has returned on you all the blood of Saul’s house, in whose place you have reigned! Yahweh has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son! Behold, you are caught by your own mischief, because you are a man of blood!”Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king,“ Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Please let me go over and take off his head.”
