The wilderness and the dry land will be glad; the desert will rejoice and blossom like a wildflower.It will blossom abundantly and will also rejoice with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon. They will see the glory of the LORD, the splendor of our God.

Then you will say,“ Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.”True enough; they were broken off because of unbelief, but you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but beware,because if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.Therefore, consider God’s kindness and severity: severity toward those who have fallen but God’s kindness toward you— if you remain in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off.And even they, if they do not remain in unbelief, will be grafted in, because God has the power to graft them in again.For if you were cut off from your native wild olive tree and against nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these— the natural branches— be grafted into their own olive tree?I don’t want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you will not be conceited: A partial hardening has come upon Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, The Deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.And this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins.

“ Son of man, face the south and preach against it. Prophesy against the forest land in the Negev,and say to the forest there,‘ Hear the word of the LORD! Insofar as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry,if I might somehow make my own people jealous and save some of them.For if their rejection brings reconciliation to the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead?Now if the firstfruits are holy, so is the whole batch. And if the root is holy, so are the branches.Now if some of the branches were broken off, and you, though a wild olive branch, were grafted in among them and have come to share in the rich root of the cultivated olive tree,

But many who are first will be last, and the last first.

For the Israelites must live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, and without ephod or household idols.

Therefore, because of you, Zion will be plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become ruins, and the temple’s mountain will be a high thicket.

For yet in a very little while, the Coming One will come and not delay.

For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it testifies about the end and will not lie. Though it delays, wait for it, since it will certainly come and not be late.

He turns rivers into desert, springs into thirsty ground,

Early in the morning, as he was returning to the city, he was hungry.Seeing a lone fig tree by the road, he went up to it and found nothing on it except leaves. And he said to it,“ May no fruit ever come from you again!” At once the fig tree withered.

Your holy people had a possession for a little while, but our enemies have trampled down your sanctuary.

For the former troubles will be forgotten and hidden from my sight.

I will make it a wasteland. It will not be pruned or weeded; thorns and briers will grow up. I will also give orders to the clouds that rain should not fall on it.

I will plant cedar, acacia, myrtle, and olive trees in the wilderness. I will put juniper, elm, and cypress trees together in the desert.

Then the LORD said: Name him Lo-ammi, for you are not my people, and I will not be your God.Yet the number of the Israelites will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or counted. And in the place where they were told: You are not my people, they will be called: Sons of the living God.

He turns a desert into a pool, dry land into springs.

Instead of the thornbush, a cypress will come up, and instead of the brier, a myrtle will come up; this will stand as a monument for the LORD, an everlasting sign that will not be destroyed.
