You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay! Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it,“ You did not make me”? Can the pot say to the potter,“ You know nothing”?

They turn everything upside down. How silly they are to think that potters are like the clay they work with! Can what is made say to the one who made it,“ You didn’t make me”? Can the pot say to the potter,“ You don’t know anything”?

You turn things upside down! Shall the potter be regarded as the clay, that the thing made should say of its maker,“ He did not make me”; or the thing formed say of him who formed it,“ He has no understanding”?

How foolish can you be? He is the Potter, and he is certainly greater than you, the clay! Should the created thing say of the one who made it,“ He didn’t make me”? Does a jar ever say,“ The potter who made me is stupid”?

You have turned things around, as if the potter were the same as the clay. How can what is made say about its maker,“ He didn’t make me”? How can what is formed say about the one who formed it,“ He doesn’t understand what he’s doing”?

You turn things around! Shall the potter be considered as equal with the clay, That what is made would say to its maker,“ He did not make me”; Or what is formed say to him who formed it,“ He has no understanding”?

Surely you have things turned around! Shall the potter be esteemed as the clay; For shall the thing made say of him who made it,“ He did not make me”? Or shall the thing formed say of him who formed it,“ He has no understanding”?

Ye turn things upside down! Shall the potter be esteemed as clay; that the thing made should say of him that made it, He made me not; or the thing formed say of him that formed it, He hath no understanding?

Your thinking is perverse! Should the potter be regarded as clay? Should the thing made say about its maker,“ He didn’t make me”? Or should the pottery say about the potter,“ He doesn’t understand”?

You turn things upside down! Should the potter be thought to be like clay; that the thing made should say about him who made it,“ He didn’t make me;” or the thing formed say of him who formed it,“ He has no understanding?”

這樣，你會對我說：「那麼，他為甚麼還指責人呢？有誰能抗拒他的旨意呢？」你這個人哪，你是誰，竟敢向神頂嘴呢？受造之物豈會對造他的說：「你為甚麼把我造成這樣呢？」難道陶匠沒有權從一團泥裏拿一塊做成貴重的器皿，又拿一塊做成卑賤的器皿嗎？

百姓中像畜牲一般的人當思想，你們愚昧人要到幾時才有智慧呢？造耳朵的，難道自己聽不見嗎？造眼睛的，難道自己看不見嗎？

耶和華的話臨到耶利米，說：「你起來，下到陶匠的家裏去，在那裏我要使你聽見我的話。」我就下到陶匠的家裏去，看哪，他在轉盤上做器皿。陶匠用泥做的器皿在他手中做壞了，他就用它另做別的器皿，照他看為好的去做。耶和華的話臨到我，說：「以色列家啊，我待你們豈不能像這陶匠弄泥嗎？以色列家，看哪，泥在陶匠的手中怎樣，你們在我的手中也怎樣。這是耶和華說的。我何時論到一邦或一國說，要拔出、拆毀、毀壞；我所說的那一邦若回轉離開他們的惡，我就改變心意，不將我想要施行的災禍降與他們。我何時論到一邦或一國說，要建立、栽植；他們若行我眼中看為惡的事，不聽從我的話，我就改變心意，不將我所說的福氣賜給他們。

但耶和華啊，現在你仍是我們的父！我們是泥，你是陶匠；我們都是你親手所造的。

「那與造他的主爭論的人有禍了！他不過是地上瓦塊中的一片。泥土豈可對塑造它的說：『你做的是甚麼？你所做的物怎麼沒有把手呢？』有人對父親說，『你生的是甚麼』，對母親說，『你生產的是甚麼』；這人有禍了！」耶和華－以色列的聖者，就是造以色列的如此說：「難道我孩子的未來，你們能質問我，我手的工作，你們可以吩咐我嗎？

看哪，耶和華使地空虛，變為荒蕪，地面扭曲，居民四散。

那些人找不着他們，就把耶孫和幾個弟兄拉到地方官那裏，喊叫着：「這些攪亂天下的人也到這裏來了，
