故我將行奇事於斯民、奇之最奇、智者亡其智、聰者蔽其聰、○

故我必行異跡於民間、神妙莫測、智者窒其慧、明者塞其聰、

故我必待斯民以奇異、奇異又奇異、使其智慧者喪智慧、明哲者失明哲、○

Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.”

So once more I will shock these people with many wonderful acts. I will destroy the wisdom of those who think they are so wise. I will do away with the cleverness of those who think they are so smart.”

therefore, behold, I will again do wonderful things with this people, with wonder upon wonder; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden.”

Because of this, I will once again astound these hypocrites with amazing wonders. The wisdom of the wise will pass away, and the intelligence of the intelligent will disappear.”

Therefore, I will again confound these people with wonder after wonder. The wisdom of their wise will vanish, and the perception of their perceptive will be hidden.

Therefore behold, I will once again deal marvelously with this people, wondrously marvelous; And the wisdom of their wise men will perish, And the understanding of their men who have understanding will be concealed.”

“ Look among the nations and watch— Be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days Which you would not believe, though it were told you.

For the Lord will rise up as at Mount Perazim, He will be angry as in the Valley of Gibeon— That He may do His work, His awesome work, And bring to pass His act, His unusual act.

Against Edom. Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ Is wisdom no more in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom vanished?

And He said,“ Go, and tell this people:‘ Keep on hearing, but do not understand; Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’“ Make the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes; Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And return and be healed.”

We know that God spoke to Moses; as for this fellow, we do not know where He is from.”The man answered and said to them,“ Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes!Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind.If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.”They answered and said to him,“ You were completely born in sins, and are you teaching us?” And they cast him out.

For it is written:“ I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness,but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

“ Will I not in that day,” says the Lord,“ Even destroy the wise men from Edom, And understanding from the mountains of Esau?

And Jesus said,“ For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him,“ Are we blind also?”Jesus said to them,“ If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say,‘ We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.

for I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and have not seen it, and to hear what you hear, and have not heard it.”

“ Even the stork in the heavens Knows her appointed times; And the turtledove, the swift, and the swallow Observe the time of their coming. But My people do not know the judgment of the Lord.“ How can you say,‘ We are wise, And the law of the Lord is with us’? Look, the false pen of the scribe certainly works falsehood.The wise men are ashamed, They are dismayed and taken. Behold, they have rejected the word of the Lord; So what wisdom do they have?

He catches the wise in their own craftiness, And the counsel of the cunning comes quickly upon them.

Surely the princes of Zoan are fools; Pharaoh’s wise counselors give foolish counsel. How do you say to Pharaoh,“ I am the son of the wise, The son of ancient kings?”Where are they? Where are your wise men? Let them tell you now, And let them know what the Lord of hosts has purposed against Egypt.The princes of Zoan have become fools; The princes of Noph are deceived; They have also deluded Egypt, Those who are the mainstay of its tribes.The Lord has mingled a perverse spirit in her midst; And they have caused Egypt to err in all her work, As a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

saying,‘ Go to this people and say:“ Hearing you will hear, and shall not understand; And seeing you will see, and not perceive;For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.”’

because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.Professing to be wise, they became fools,

Pause and wonder! Blind yourselves and be blind! They are drunk, but not with wine; They stagger, but not with intoxicating drink.For the Lord has poured out on you The spirit of deep sleep, And has closed your eyes, namely, the prophets; And He has covered your heads, namely, the seers.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written,“ He catches the wise in their own craftiness”;

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

The spirit of Egypt will fail in its midst; I will destroy their counsel, And they will consult the idols and the charmers, The mediums and the sorcerers.
