大衛住在這堡壘裡，稱它為「大衛城」。大衛從梯壘向內，把周圍都建造起來。

至於那些宰殺公牛也擊殺人的，祭獻羔羊也打斷狗脖子的，獻上供物也獻上豬血的，燒乳香作記念祭也頌讚偶像的——他們都選擇自己的道路，他們的心喜悅自己那些可憎之事；

既然律法帶有那將要來的美好事物的影子，它不是那些事物的本像，就絕不能藉著年年不斷地獻上同樣的祭物，使近前來的人得以完全。

耶和華說：「你們所獻的眾多祭物，對我有什麼意義呢？公綿羊的燔祭和肥畜的脂油，我已經膩煩了；公牛、羊羔和公山羊的血，我也不喜悅。你們來朝見我時，誰向你們要求這踐踏我院宇的事呢？不要再帶無用的供物了！獻祭的香，是我所憎惡的；新月節、安息日、宣召的聚會——邪惡的嚴肅集會，是我不能容忍的。你們的新月節和所定的節期，是我心裡所恨惡的；它們成了我的重負，我已厭倦不堪。你們伸開雙手禱告的時候，我必掩目不看你們；就算你們多多禱告，我也不垂聽。你們的雙手沾滿了血！

到那日，主萬軍之耶和華呼籲你們哭泣哀號、剃光頭髮、束上麻布。看哪！你們卻歡喜快樂，殺牛宰羊，吃肉喝酒，說：「讓我們吃喝吧！因為明天我們就要死了。」

他們的磐石必因恐慌而挪移，他們的首領必因敵旗而喪膽。」這是耶和華的宣告——他的火在錫安，他的火爐在耶路撒冷。
