希西家王十四年、亞述王西拿基立上來攻擊猶大的一切堡壘城，將城奪取。

於是我但以理精疲力竭，病了幾天，然後起來辦理王的事務；我因所見的景象而驚駭，全不明白其中的意義。

因此永恆主以色列的上帝這麼說：『看吧，我必降這麼大的災禍於耶路撒冷和猶大，以致凡聽見的人耳朵都會顫動的。

『那事到這裏就了結。我但以理呢、心裏一想就驚惶，氣色也突變；然而那事、我總存記於心。』

你要說：「猶大列王、和耶路撒冷的居民哪，你們要聽永恆主的話。萬軍之永恆主以色列之上帝這麼說：看吧，我必使災禍臨到這地方，就是凡聽見的人耳朵都會顫動的。

當下希西家的兒子、管家以利亞敬、祕書舍伯那和亞薩的兒子、通知官約亞、都來到希西家面前，衣服撕裂，將參謀長的話告訴了他。

主永恆主賜給我受教之舌頭，使我知道怎樣用話語去扶助疲乏的人。主每天早晨喚醒我，他每天早晨喚醒我的耳朵，使我曉得聽、像受教者一樣。

何細亞九年、亞述王攻取了撒瑪利亞，使以色列人流亡到亞述，住在哈臘和歌散的哈博河邊、跟瑪代人的城市。

永恆主打發迦勒底人的遊擊隊、亞蘭人的遊擊隊、摩押人的遊擊隊、和亞捫人的遊擊隊：他打發這些人來攻擊猶大、要毁滅它，正如永恆主的話，由他僕人神言人們經手所說過的。

有禍呀，亞述，我怒氣的棍子！他是我忿怒之杖、在我手中。我打發他來攻擊不拜上帝之國，吩咐他來擊打我所惱怒的人民，來擄掠擄掠物，來掠劫掠劫物，使他們被踐踏、像街上的泥土一樣。
