我以公平為繩、以善義為準、爾以誑詐為掩蔽之所、雹必除之、爾以虛偽為藏身之處、水必沖之、或作我以公平為準繩以善義為吊錘使雹擊除誑詐之蔽所使水沖沒虛偽之藏處

I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line; hail will sweep away your refuge, the lie, and water will overflow your hiding place.

I will use a measuring line to prove that you have not been fair. I will use a plumb line to prove that you have not done what is right. Hail will sweep away the lies you depend on to keep you safe. Water will flood your hiding place.

And I will make justice the line, and righteousness the plumb line; and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and waters will overwhelm the shelter.”

I will test you with the measuring line of justice and the plumb line of righteousness. Since your refuge is made of lies, a hailstorm will knock it down. Since it is made of deception, a flood will sweep it away.

And I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the mason’s level.” Hail will sweep away the false refuge, and water will flood your hiding place.

Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall[ made] by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven,[ every stone] about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

Therefore will I do unto[ this] house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.

Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one,[ which] as a tempest of hail[ and] a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand.

And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it.

But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness.

And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places;When it shall hail, coming down on the forest; and the city shall be low in a low place.

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:

Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:

And his breath, as an overflowing stream, shall reach to the midst of the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of vanity: and[ there shall be] a bridle in the jaws of the people, causing[ them] to err.

For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea,[ yet] a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.

Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now.Send therefore now,[ and] gather thy cattle, and all that thou hast in the field;[ for upon] every man and beast which shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.

Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and[ there was] no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered[ morter]:Say unto them which daub[ it] with untempered[ morter], that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall rend[ it].Lo, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where[ is] the daubing wherewith ye have daubed[ it]?Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even rend[ it] with a stormy wind in my fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in[ my] fury to consume[ it].So will I break down the wall that ye have daubed with untempered[ morter], and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation thereof shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof: and ye shall know that I[ am] the LORD.Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have daubed it with untempered[ morter], and will say unto you, The wall[ is] no[ more], neither they that daubed it;[ To wit], the prophets of Israel which prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and which see visions of peace for her, and[ there is] no peace, saith the Lord GOD.

For true and righteous[ are] his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.

But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones[ is] as a storm[ against] the wall.

Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD,[ are] these.For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour;[ If] ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.
