The splendid crown of Ephraim’s drunkards is doomed, the withering flower, its beautiful splendor, situated at the head of a rich valley, the crown of those overcome with wine.

祸哉！以法莲的酒徒，住在肥美谷的山上，他们心里高傲，以所夸的为冠冕，犹如将残之花。

以法莲那些醉汉所戴的高傲冠冕，有祸了！它在肥美谷山顶上的荣美，有祸了！它必如将残的花朵，满了喝醉酒的人。

禍哉！以法蓮酒徒的高傲冠冕——榮耀華美的將殘之花！它就在醉酒人肥沃之谷的山頂上。

禍哉、以法蓮醉者高傲之冠冕、及其美飾之殘花、在膏腴山谷之上、其民沉湎於酒、

以法蓮建都於山嶺、望之若冠花冠、四周有谷、土壤膏腴、民人沉湎於酒、心志驕奢、不知浮榮易悴、禍將作矣。

以法蓮人沈湎於酒、其邑建於膏腴平原之岡、狀如華冠、華美莊嚴、遂以自誇、不知實似將殘之花、禍哉禍哉、或作以法蓮建都於高岡在膏腴之谷中狀若華冠其人沈湎於酒心高志傲不知其榮如將殘之花禍哉禍哉

Woe to that wreath, the pride of Ephraim’s drunkards, to the fading flower, his glorious beauty, set on the head of a fertile valley— to that city, the pride of those laid low by wine!

How terrible it will be for the city of Samaria! It sits on a hill like a wreath of flowers. The leaders of Ephraim are drunk. They take pride in their city. It sits above a valley that has rich soil. How terrible it will be for the glorious beauty of that fading flower!

Ah, the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim, and the fading flower of its glorious beauty, which is on the head of the rich valley of those overcome with wine!

What sorrow awaits the proud city of Samaria— the glorious crown of the drunks of Israel. It sits at the head of a fertile valley, but its glorious beauty will fade like a flower. It is the pride of a people brought down by wine.

Woe to the majestic crown of Ephraim’s drunkards, and to the fading flower of its beautiful splendor, which is on the summit above the rich valley. Woe to those overcome with wine.

Woe to the proud crown of the habitually drunk of Ephraim, And to the fading flower of its glorious beauty, Which is at the head of the fertile valley Of those who are overcome with wine!

Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, Whose glorious beauty is a fading flower Which is at the head of the verdant valleys, To those who are overcome with wine!

Woe to the crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim, and to the fading flower of his glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley of them that are overcome with wine!

At the celebration of their king, his princes become inflamed with wine; they conspire with evildoers.

The splendid crown of Ephraim’s drunkards will be trampled underfoot.The withering flower, its beautiful splendor, situated at the head of a rich valley, will be like an early fig before harvest– as soon as someone notices it, he grabs it and swallows it.

Even these men stagger because of wine, they stumble around because of beer– priests and prophets stagger because of beer, they are confused because of wine, they stumble around because of beer; they stagger while seeing prophetic visions, they totter while making legal decisions.

Old and new wine take away the understanding of my people.

I have seen a disgusting thing in the temple of Israel: there Ephraim practices temple prostitution and Judah defiles itself.

In one day King Pekah son of Remaliah of Israel killed 120,000 warriors in Judah, because they had abandoned the LORD God of their ancestors.

He restored the border of Israel from Lebo Hamath in the north to the sea of the Arabah in the south, in accordance with the word of the LORD God of Israel announced through his servant Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet from Gath Hepher.The LORD saw Israel’s intense suffering; everyone was weak and incapacitated and Israel had no deliverer.The LORD had not decreed that he would blot out Israel’s memory from under heaven, so he delivered them through Jeroboam son of Joash.

Those who are champions at drinking wine are as good as dead, who display great courage when mixing strong drinks.

During Pekah’s reign over Israel, King Tiglath-pileser of Assyria came and captured Ijon, Abel Beth Maacah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor, Gilead, and Galilee, including all the territory of Naphtali. He deported the people to Assyria.

Messengers delivered the letters from the king and his officials throughout Israel and Judah. This royal edict read:“ O Israelites, return to the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, so he may return to you who have been spared from the kings of Assyria.Don’t be like your fathers and brothers who were unfaithful to the LORD God of their ancestors, provoking him to destroy them, as you can see.

Woe to those who live in ease in Zion, to those who feel secure on Mount Samaria. They think of themselves as the elite class of the best nation. The family of Israel looks to them for leadership.

After three years he captured it( in the sixth year of Hezekiah’s reign); in the ninth year of King Hoshea’s reign over Israel Samaria was captured.The king of Assyria deported the people of Israel to Assyria. He settled them in Halah, along the Habor( the river of Gozan), and in the cities of the Medes.This happened because they did not obey the LORD their God and broke his agreement with them. They did not pay attention to and obey all that Moses, the LORD’s servant, had commanded.

“ But you made the Nazirites drink wine; you commanded the prophets,‘ Do not prophesy!’

Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has dullness of the eyes?

They drink wine from sacrificial bowls, and pour the very best oils on themselves. Yet they are not concerned over the ruin of Joseph.

All the people were aware of it, the people of Ephraim and those living in Samaria. Yet with pride and an arrogant attitude, they said,

Those who get up early to drink beer are as good as dead, those who keep drinking long after dark until they are intoxicated with wine.

For Syria’s leader is Damascus, and the leader of Damascus is Rezin. Within sixty-five years Ephraim will no longer exist as a nation.Ephraim’s leader is Samaria, and Samaria’s leader is the son of Remaliah. If your faith does not remain firm, then you will not remain secure.”

The arrogance of Israel testifies against it; Israel and Ephraim will be overthrown because of their iniquity. Even Judah will be brought down with them.

They stretch out on clothing seized as collateral; they do so right beside every altar! They drink wine bought with the fines they have levied; they do so right in the temple of their God!

for before the child knows how to cry out,‘ My father’ or‘ My mother,’ the wealth of Damascus and the plunder of Samaria will be carried off by the king of Assyria.”
