The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib; but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.

every one that is called by my name, and whom I have created for my glory, whom I have formed, yea, whom I have made.

Therefore the Lord will not rejoice over their young men, neither will he have compassion on their fatherless and widows; for every one is profane and an evil- doer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

Son of man, what is the vine- tree more than any tree, the vine- branch which is among the trees of the forest?Shall wood be taken thereof to make any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire hath devoured both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned: is it profitable for any work?Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned, shall it yet be meet for any work!Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: As the vine- tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.And I will set my face against them; they shall go forth from the fire, but the fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am Jehovah, when I set my face against them.And I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass, saith the Lord Jehovah.

For they are a nation void of counsel, And there is no understanding in them.Oh that they were wise, that they understood this, That they would consider their latter end!

And as for me also, mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity, but I will bring their way upon their head.

Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; that have eyes, and see not; that have ears, and hear not:Fear ye not me? saith Jehovah: will ye not tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea, by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it? and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it.

They know not, neither do they consider: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.And none calleth to mind, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?He feedeth on ashes; a deceived heart hath turned him aside; and he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?Remember these things, O Jacob, and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me.

Then I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish; for they know not the way of Jehovah, nor the law of their God:I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they know the way of Jehovah, and the law of their God. But these with one accord have broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

And the stock which thy right hand planted, And the branch that thou madest strong for thyself.It is burned with fire, it is cut down: They perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.

For this people’s heart is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes they have closed; Lest haply they should perceive with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And should turn again, And I should heal them.

And even now the axe lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
