掃羅說：「今日耶和華在以色列中施行拯救，所以不可殺人。」

約書亞說：「哀哉！主耶和華啊，你為甚麼竟領這百姓過約旦河，將我們交在亞摩利人的手中，使我們滅亡呢？我們不如住在約旦河那邊倒好。主啊，以色列人既在仇敵面前轉背逃跑，我還有甚麼可說的呢？迦南人和這地一切的居民聽見了就必圍困我們，將我們的名從地上除滅。那時你為你的大名要怎樣行呢？」

百姓對掃羅說：「約拿單在以色列人中這樣大行拯救，豈可使他死呢？斷乎不可！我們指着永生的耶和華起誓，連他的一根頭髮也不可落地，因為他今日與神一同做事。」於是百姓救約拿單免了死亡。

對他說：「希西家如此說：『今日是急難、責罰、凌辱的日子，就如婦人將要生產嬰孩，卻沒有力量生產。

摩西回到耶和華那裏，說：「主啊，你為甚麼苦待這百姓呢？為甚麼打發我去呢？自從我去見法老，奉你的名說話，他就苦待這百姓，你一點也沒有拯救他們。」

世人不能恨你們，卻是恨我，因為我指證他們所做的事是惡的。
