Though Babylon ascends to the heavens, And though she fortifies her lofty stronghold, Destroyers will come from Me to her,” declares the Lord.The sound of an outcry from Babylon, And of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!For the Lord is going to destroy Babylon, And He will make her loud noise vanish from her. And their waves will roar like many waters; The clamor of their voices sounds forth.For the destroyer is coming against her, against Babylon, And her warriors will be captured, Their bows shattered; For the Lord is a God of retribution, He will fully repay.“ I will make her leaders and her wise men drunk, Her governors, her officials, and her warriors, So that they will sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake up,” Declares the King, whose name is the Lord of armies.

And the Lord will cause His voice of authority to be heard, And the descending of His arm to be seen in fierce anger, And in the flame of a consuming fire In cloudburst, downpour, and hailstones.For at the voice of the Lord Assyria will be terrified, When He strikes with the rod.And every blow of the rod of punishment, Which the Lord will lay on him, Will be with the music of tambourines and lyres; And in battles, brandishing weapons, He will fight them.For Topheth has long been ready, Indeed, it has been prepared for the king. He has made it deep and large, A pyre of fire with plenty of wood; The breath of the Lord, like a torrent of brimstone, sets it afire.

They deserve it.”And I heard the altar saying,“ Yes, Lord God, the Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.”And the fourth angel poured out his bowl upon the sun, and it was given power to scorch people with fire.And the people were scorched with fierce heat; and they blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues, and they did not repent so as to give Him glory.And the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became darkened; and they gnawed their tongues because of pain,and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pain and their sores; and they did not repent of their deeds.The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river, the Euphrates; and its water was dried up, so that the way would be prepared for the kings from the east.And I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs;for they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the entire world, to gather them together for the war of the great day of God, the Almighty.(“ Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes, so that he will not walk about naked and people will not see his shame.”)And they gathered them together to the place which in Hebrew is called Har Magedon.Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl upon the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple from the throne, saying,“ It is done.”And there were flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder; and there was a great earthquake, such as there had not been since mankind came to be upon the earth, so great an earthquake was it, and so mighty.The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. Babylon the great was remembered in the sight of God, to give her the cup of the wine of His fierce wrath.

Yet today he will halt at Nob; He shakes his fist at the mountain of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.Behold, the Lord, the God of armies, will lop off the branches with terrifying power; Those also who are tall in stature will be cut down, And those who are lofty will be brought low.He will cut down the thickets of the forest with an iron axe, And Lebanon will fall by the Mighty One.

For this is what the Lord has told me:“ I will quietly look from My dwelling place Like dazzling heat in the sunshine, Like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.”

and will come out to deceive the nations which are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the sand of the seashore.And they came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and devoured them.

They will not hunger or thirst, Nor will the scorching heat or sun strike them down; For He who has compassion on them will lead them, And He will guide them to springs of water.

“ Because you are glad, because you are jubilant, You who pillage My heritage, Because you skip about like a threshing heifer And neigh like stallions,Your mother will be greatly ashamed, She who gave you birth will be humiliated. Behold, she will be the least of the nations, A wilderness, a dry land and a desert.Because of the wrath of the Lord she will not be inhabited, But she will be completely desolate; Everyone who passes by Babylon will be horrified And will hiss because of all her wounds.Draw up your battle lines against Babylon on every side, All of you who bend the bow; Shoot at her, do not spare your arrows, For she has sinned against the Lord.Raise your battle cry against her on every side! She has given herself up, her towers have fallen, Her walls have been torn down. For this is the vengeance of the Lord: Take vengeance on her; As she has done to others, so do to her.

They will roar together like young lions, They will growl like lions’ cubs.When they become heated up, I will serve them their banquet And make them drunk, so that they may rejoice in triumph, And may sleep a perpetual sleep And not wake up,” declares the Lord.“ I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, Like rams together with male goats.“ How Sheshak has been captured, And the praise of the whole earth has been seized! How Babylon has become an object of horror among the nations!The sea has come up over Babylon; She has been engulfed by its roaring waves.Her cities have become an object of horror, A dry land and a desert, A land in which no one lives And through which no one of mankind passes.

And you will go up, you will come like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the land, you and all your troops, and many peoples with you.”‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ It will come about on that day, that thoughts will come into your mind and you will devise an evil plan,and you will say,‘ I will go up against the land of unwalled villages. I will go against those who are at rest, who live securely, all of them living without walls and having no bars or gates,to capture spoils and to seize plunder, to turn your hand against the ruins that are now inhabited, and against the people who are gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, who live at the center of the world.’Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish with all its villages will say to you,‘ Have you come to capture spoils? Have you assembled your contingent to seize plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to capture great spoils?’ ” ’“ Therefore prophesy, son of man, and say to Gog,‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ On that day when My people Israel are living securely, will you not know it?You will come from your place out of the remote parts of the north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding horses, a large assembly and a mighty army;and you will come up against My people Israel like a cloud to cover the land. It shall come about in the last days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me when I show Myself holy through you before their eyes, Gog.”‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ Are you the one of whom I spoke in former days through My servants the prophets of Israel, who prophesied in those days for many years that I would bring you against them?It will come about on that day, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” declares the Lord God,“ that My fury will mount up in My anger.In My zeal and in My blazing wrath I declare that on that day there will certainly be a great earthquake in the land of Israel.The fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the animals of the field, all the crawling things that crawl on the earth, and all mankind who are on the face of the earth will shake at My presence; and the mountains will be thrown down, the steep pathways will collapse, and every wall will fall to the ground.And I will call for a sword against him on all My mountains,” declares the Lord God.“ Every man’s sword will be against his brother.With plague and with blood I will enter into judgment with him; and I will rain on him and on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, a torrential rain, hailstones, fire, and brimstone.So I will prove Myself great, show Myself holy, and make Myself known in the sight of many nations; and they will know that I am the Lord.” ’“ And you, son of man, prophesy against Gog and say,‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ Behold, I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal;and I will turn you around, lead you on a rope, take you up from the remotest parts of the north, and bring you against the mountains of Israel.Then I will strike your bow from your left hand and make your arrows fall from your right hand.You will fall on the mountains of Israel, you and all your troops, and the peoples who are with you; I will give you as food to every kind of predatory bird and animal of the field.You will fall on the open field; for it is I who have spoken,” declares the Lord God.“ And I will send fire upon Magog and those who inhabit the coastlands in safety; and they will know that I am the Lord.“ And I will make My holy name known in the midst of My people Israel; and I will not allow My holy name to be profaned anymore. But the nations will know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel.Behold, it is coming and it shall be done,” declares the Lord God.“ That is the day of which I have spoken.“ Then those who inhabit the cities of Israel will go out and make fires with the weapons and burn them, both bucklers and shields, bows and arrows, war clubs and spears, and for seven years they will make fires of them.They will not take wood from the field or gather firewood from the forests, because they will make fires with the weapons; and they will take the spoils of those who plundered them and seize the plunder of those who plundered them,” declares the Lord God.

Indeed, this is what the Lord says:“ Even the captives of the mighty man will be taken away, And the prey of a tyrant will be rescued; For I will contend with the one who contends with you, And I will save your sons.I will feed your oppressors with their own flesh, And they will become drunk with their own blood as with sweet wine; And humanity will know that I, the Lord, am your Savior And your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”

For it says,“ Are not my officers all kings?Is not Calno like Carchemish, Or Hamath like Arpad, Or Samaria like Damascus?As my hand has reached to the kingdoms of the idols, Whose carved images were greater than those of Jerusalem and Samaria,Shall I not do the same to Jerusalem and her images Just as I have done to Samaria and her idols?”So it will be that when the Lord has completed all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, He will say,“ I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the arrogant pride of his eyes.”For he has said,“ By the power of my hand and by my wisdom I did this, Because I have understanding; And I removed the boundaries of the peoples And plundered their treasures, And like a powerful man I brought down their inhabitants,And my hand reached to the riches of the peoples like a nest, And as one gathers abandoned eggs, I gathered all the earth; And there was not one that flapped its wing, opened its beak, or chirped.”Is the axe to boast itself over the one who chops with it? Is the saw to exalt itself over the one who wields it? That would be like a club wielding those who lift it, Or like a rod lifting the one who is not wood.

“ This is what he said:‘ The fourth beast will be a fourth kingdom on the earth which will be different from all the other kingdoms, and will devour the whole earth and trample it down and crush it.As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise; and another will arise after them, and he will be different from the previous ones and will humble three kings.And he will speak against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law; and they will be handed over to him for a time, times, and half a time.But the court will convene for judgment, and his dominion will be taken away, annihilated and destroyed forever.Then the sovereignty, the dominion, and the greatness of all the kingdoms under the whole heaven will be given to the people of the saints of the Highest One; His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all the empires will serve and obey Him.’

Then Jonah left the city and sat down east of it. There he made a shelter for himself and sat under it in the shade, until he could see what would happen in the city.So the Lord God designated a plant, and it grew up over Jonah to be a shade over his head, to relieve him of his discomfort. And Jonah was overjoyed about the plant.

So I will punish the world for its evil And the wicked for their wrongdoing; I will also put an end to the audacity of the proud And humiliate the arrogance of the tyrants.

Oh, the uproar of many peoples Who roar like the roaring of the seas, And the rumbling of nations Who rush on like the rumbling of mighty waters!The nations rumble on like the rumbling of many waters, But He will rebuke them, and they will flee far away, And be chased like chaff on the mountains before the wind, Or like whirling dust before a gale.At evening time, behold, there is terror! Before morning they are gone. This will be the fate of those who plunder us And the lot of those who pillage us.

“ Son of man, lament for the hordes of Egypt and bring it down, her and the daughters of the mighty nations, to the netherworld, with those who go down to the pit;‘ Whom do you surpass in beauty? Go down and make your bed with the uncircumcised.’They shall fall in the midst of those who are killed by the sword. She is turned over to the sword; they have dragged her and all her hordes away.The strong among the mighty ones shall speak of him and his helpers from the midst of Sheol:‘ They have gone down, they lie still, the uncircumcised, killed by the sword.’“ Assyria is there and all her company; her graves are all around her. Her graves are around it, they are all uncircumcised, killed by the sword( although their terror was inflicted on the land of the living), and they bore their disgrace with those who go down to the pit; they were put in the midst of the slain.“ Meshech, Tubal, and all their hordes are there; their graves surround them. All of them were killed by the sword uncircumcised, though they inflicted their terror on the land of the living.Nor do they lie beside the fallen heroes of the uncircumcised, who went down to Sheol with their weapons of war and whose swords were placed under their heads; but the punishment for their wrongdoing rested on their bones, though the terror of these heroes was once in the land of the living.But in the midst of the uncircumcised you will be broken and lie with those killed by the sword.“ There also is Edom, its kings and all its princes, who despite all their might are laid with those killed by the sword; they will lie with the uncircumcised and with those who go down to the pit.“ There also are the chiefs of the north, all of them, and all the Sidonians, who in spite of the terror resulting from their might, in shame went down with the slain. So they lay down uncircumcised with those killed by the sword and bore their disgrace with those who go down to the pit.“ These Pharaoh will see, and he will find consolation regarding all his hordes killed by the sword, Pharaoh and all his army,” declares the Lord God.“ Though I inflicted the terror of him on the land of the living, yet he will be laid to rest among the uncircumcised along with those killed by the sword, Pharaoh and all his hordes,” declares the Lord God.

He flourishes before the sun, And his shoots spread out over his garden.His roots wrap around a rock pile, He grasps a house of stones.If he is removed from his place, Then it will deny him, saying,‘ I never saw you.’Behold, this is the joy of His way; And out of the dust others will spring.

Why should the nations say,“ Where is their God?” Let vengeance for the blood of Your servants which has been shed Be known among the nations in our sight.Let the groaning of the prisoner come before You; According to the greatness of Your power, let those who are doomed to die remain.And return to our neighbors seven times as much into their lap Their taunts with which they have taunted You, Lord.

But you have been hurled out of your tomb Like a rejected branch, Clothed with those killed who have been pierced with a sword, Who go down to the stones of the pit Like a trampled corpse.

Step toward the irreparable ruins; The enemy has damaged everything in the sanctuary.Your adversaries have roared in the midst of Your meeting place; They have set up their own signs as signs.It seems like one bringing up His axe into a forest of trees.And now they break down all its carved work With axe and hammers.They have burned Your sanctuary to the ground; They have defiled the dwelling place of Your name.They said in their heart,“ Let’s completely subdue them.” They have burned all the meeting places of God in the land.We do not see our signs; There is no longer any prophet, Nor is there anyone among us who knows how long.How long, God, will the enemy taunt You? Shall the enemy treat Your name disrespectfully forever?Why do You withdraw Your hand, even Your right hand? Extend it from Your chest and destroy them!Yet God is my King from long ago, Who performs acts of salvation in the midst of the earth.You divided the sea by Your strength; You broke the heads of the sea monsters in the waters.You crushed the heads of Leviathan; You gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.You broke open springs and torrents; You dried up ever flowing streams.Yours is the day, Yours also is the night; You have prepared the light and the sun.You have established all the boundaries of the earth; You have created summer and winter.Remember this, Lord, that the enemy has taunted You, And a foolish people has treated Your name disrespectfully.Do not give the soul of Your turtledove to the wild animal; Do not forget the life of Your afflicted forever.Consider the covenant; For the dark places of the land are full of the places of violence.May the oppressed person not return dishonored; May the afflicted and the needy praise Your name.Arise, God, and plead Your own cause; Remember how the foolish person taunts You all day long.Do not forget the voice of Your adversaries, The uproar of those who rise against You, which ascends continually.
