他们就拿住耶利米，下在哈米勒的儿子玛基雅的牢狱里；那牢狱在护卫兵的院中。他们用绳子将耶利米系下去。牢狱里没有水，只有淤泥，耶利米就陷在淤泥中。在王宫的太监古实人以伯米勒，听见他们将耶利米下了牢狱（那时王坐在便雅悯门口），以伯米勒就从王宫里出来，对王说：“主我的王啊，这些人向先知耶利米一味地行恶，将他下在牢狱中；他在那里必因饥饿而死，因为城中再没有粮食。”王就吩咐古实人以伯米勒说：“你从这里带领三十人，趁着先知耶利米未死以前，将他从牢狱中提上来。”于是以伯米勒带领这些人同去，进入王宫，到库房以下，从那里取了些碎布和破烂的衣服，用绳子缒下牢狱去到耶利米那里。古实人以伯米勒对耶利米说：“你用这些碎布和破烂的衣服放在绳子上，垫你的胳肢窝。”耶利米就照样行了。这样，他们用绳子将耶利米从牢狱里拉上来。耶利米仍在护卫兵的院中。

地上的居民哪，恐惧、陷坑、网罗都临近你。

那五王逃跑，藏在玛基大洞里。有人告诉约书亚说：“那五王已经找到了，都藏在玛基大洞里。”

耶和华兴起，使地大震动的时候，人就进入石洞，进入土穴，躲避耶和华的惊吓和他威严的荣光。

过了多日，你必被差派。到末后之年，你必来到脱离刀剑从列国收回之地，到以色列常久荒凉的山上；但那从列国中招聚出来的必在其上安然居住。

约书亚说：“打开洞口，将那五王从洞里带出来，领到我面前。”众人就这样行，将那五王，就是耶路撒冷王、希伯仑王、耶末王、拉吉王、伊矶伦王，从洞里带出来，领到约书亚面前。带出那五王到约书亚面前的时候，约书亚就召了以色列众人来，对那些和他同去的军长说：“你们近前来，把脚踏在这些王的颈项上。”他们就近前来，把脚踏在这些王的颈项上。约书亚对他们说：“你们不要惧怕，也不要惊惶。应当刚强壮胆，因为耶和华必这样待你们所要攻打的一切仇敌。”随后约书亚将这五王杀死，挂在五棵树上。他们就在树上直挂到晚上。

他们只得屈身在被掳的人以下，仆倒在被杀的人以下。虽然如此，耶和华的怒气还未转消；他的手仍伸不缩。
