it will be the same for priest as for people, for the master as for his servant, for the mistress as for her servant, for seller as for buyer, for borrower as for lender, for debtor as for creditor.

Priests and people alike will suffer. So will masters and their servants. And so will women and their female servants. Sellers and buyers alike will suffer. So will those who borrow and those who lend. And so will those who owe money and those who lend it.

Priests and laypeople, servants and masters, maids and mistresses, buyers and sellers, lenders and borrowers, bankers and debtors— none will be spared.

And it shall be like people, like priest; I will punish them for their ways and repay them for their deeds.

The time has come; the day has arrived. Let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn, for wrath is upon all their multitude.For the seller shall not return to what he has sold, while they live. For the vision concerns all their multitude; it shall not turn back; and because of his iniquity, none can maintain his life.

Man is humbled, and each one is brought low, and the eyes of the haughty are brought low.

Princes are hung up by their hands; no respect is shown to the elders.Young men are compelled to grind at the mill, and boys stagger under loads of wood.The old men have left the city gate, the young men their music.

So the Lord cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed in one day—the elder and honored man is the head, and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail;for those who guide this people have been leading them astray, and those who are guided by them are swallowed up.Therefore the Lord does not rejoice over their young men, and has no compassion on their fatherless and widows; for everyone is godless and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still.

Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the ten men with him rose up and struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, with the sword, and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had appointed governor in the land.

“ You shall not charge interest on loans to your brother, interest on money, interest on food, interest on anything that is lent for interest.You may charge a foreigner interest, but you may not charge your brother interest, that the Lord your God may bless you in all that you undertake in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.

Take no interest from him or profit, but fear your God, that your brother may live beside you.You shall not lend him your money at interest, nor give him your food for profit.

knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free.Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.

“ For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: As my anger and my wrath were poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so my wrath will be poured out on you when you go to Egypt. You shall become an execration, a horror, a curse, and a taunt. You shall see this place no more.

And I will set my face against that man; I will make him a sign and a byword and cut him off from the midst of my people, and you shall know that I am the Lord.And if the prophet is deceived and speaks a word, I, the Lord, have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.And they shall bear their punishment— the punishment of the prophet and the punishment of the inquirer shall be alike—

the mighty man and the soldier, the judge and the prophet, the diviner and the elder,the captain of fifty and the man of rank, the counselor and the skillful magician and the expert in charms.And I will make boys their princes, and infants shall rule over them.And the people will oppress one another, every one his fellow and every one his neighbor; the youth will be insolent to the elder, and the despised to the honorable.For a man will take hold of his brother in the house of his father, saying:“ You have a cloak; you shall be our leader, and this heap of ruins shall be under your rule”;in that day he will speak out, saying:“ I will not be a healer; in my house there is neither bread nor cloak; you shall not make me leader of the people.”For Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen, because their speech and their deeds are against the Lord, defying his glorious presence.

So man is humbled, and each one is brought low— do not forgive them!
