Priests and people alike will suffer. So will masters and their servants. And so will women and their female servants. Sellers and buyers alike will suffer. So will those who borrow and those who lend. And so will those who owe money and those who lend it.

And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the slave, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the creditor, so with the debtor.

Priests and laypeople, servants and masters, maids and mistresses, buyers and sellers, lenders and borrowers, bankers and debtors— none will be spared.

The time has come! The day has arrived! Let not the buyer rejoice nor the seller grieve, for my wrath is on the whole crowd.The seller will not recover the property that was sold— as long as both buyer and seller live. For the vision concerning the whole crowd will not be reversed. Because of their sins, not one of them will preserve their life. (niv)

So people will be brought low and everyone humbled, the eyes of the arrogant humbled. (niv)

He carried into exile to Babylon the remnant, who escaped from the sword, and they became servants to him and his successors until the kingdom of Persia came to power. (niv)

we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws.We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our ancestors, and to all the people of the land.“ Lord, you are righteous, but this day we are covered with shame— the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far, in all the countries where you have scattered us because of our unfaithfulness to you.We and our kings, our princes and our ancestors are covered with shame, Lord, because we have sinned against you. The commander of the guard took as prisoners Seraiah the chief priest, Zephaniah the priest next in rank and the three doorkeepers.Of those still in the city, he took the officer in charge of the fighting men, and seven royal advisers. He also took the secretary who was chief officer in charge of conscripting the people of the land, sixty of whom were found in the city.Nebuzaradan the commander took them all and brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah.There at Riblah, in the land of Hamath, the king had them executed. So Judah went into captivity, away from her land.This is the number of the people Nebuchadnezzar carried into exile: in the seventh year, 3,023 Jews;in Nebuchadnezzar’s eighteenth year, 832 people from Jerusalem;in his twenty-third year, 745 Jews taken into exile by Nebuzaradan the commander of the imperial guard. There were 4,600 people in all. (niv)

Princes have been hung up by their hands; elders are shown no respect.Young men toil at the millstones; boys stagger under loads of wood.The elders are gone from the city gate; the young men have stopped their music. (niv)

But it happened because of the sins of her prophets and the iniquities of her priests, who shed within her the blood of the righteous. (niv)

“ Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I am determined to bring disaster on you and to destroy all Judah.I will take away the remnant of Judah who were determined to go to Egypt to settle there. They will all perish in Egypt; they will fall by the sword or die from famine. From the least to the greatest, they will die by sword or famine. They will become a curse and an object of horror, a curse and an object of reproach.I will punish those who live in Egypt with the sword, famine and plague, as I punished Jerusalem. (niv)

Furthermore, all the leaders of the priests and the people became more and more unfaithful, following all the detestable practices of the nations and defiling the temple of the Lord, which he had consecrated in Jerusalem.The Lord, the God of their ancestors, sent word to them through his messengers again and again, because he had pity on his people and on his dwelling place.But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his words and scoffed at his prophets until the wrath of the Lord was aroused against his people and there was no remedy.He brought up against them the king of the Babylonians, who killed their young men with the sword in the sanctuary, and did not spare young men or young women, the elderly or the infirm. God gave them all into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar. (niv)

Before the years of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On. (niv)

“ Both prophet and priest are godless; even in my temple I find their wickedness,” declares the Lord.“ Therefore their path will become slippery; they will be banished to darkness and there they will fall. I will bring disaster on them in the year they are punished,” declares the Lord.“ Among the prophets of Samaria I saw this repulsive thing: They prophesied by Baal and led my people Israel astray. Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain; you crushed them, but they refused correction. They made their faces harder than stone and refused to repent.I thought,“ These are only the poor; they are foolish, for they do not know the way of the Lord, the requirements of their God.So I will go to the leaders and speak to them; surely they know the way of the Lord, the requirements of their God.” But with one accord they too had broken off the yoke and torn off the bonds.Therefore a lion from the forest will attack them, a wolf from the desert will ravage them, a leopard will lie in wait near their towns to tear to pieces any who venture out, for their rebellion is great and their backslidings many. So the Lord will cut off from Israel both head and tail, both palm branch and reed in a single day;the elders and dignitaries are the head, the prophets who teach lies are the tail.Those who guide this people mislead them, and those who are guided are led astray.Therefore the Lord will take no pleasure in the young men, nor will he pity the fatherless and widows, for everyone is ungodly and wicked, every mouth speaks folly. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised. (niv)

Ishmael son of Nethaniah and the ten men who were with him got up and struck down Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword, killing the one whom the king of Babylon had appointed as governor over the land. (niv)

Do not charge a fellow Israelite interest, whether on money or food or anything else that may earn interest.You may charge a foreigner interest, but not a fellow Israelite, so that the Lord your God may bless you in everything you put your hand to in the land you are entering to possess. (niv)

Do not take interest or any profit from them, but fear your God, so that they may continue to live among you.You must not lend them money at interest or sell them food at a profit. (niv)

because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him. (niv)

This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says:‘ As my anger and wrath have been poured out on those who lived in Jerusalem, so will my wrath be poured out on you when you go to Egypt. I will set my face against them and make them an example and a byword. I will remove them from my people. Then you will know that I am the Lord.“‘ And if the prophet is enticed to utter a prophecy, I the Lord have enticed that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him and destroy him from among my people Israel.They will bear their guilt— the prophet will be as guilty as the one who consults him. the hero and the warrior, the judge and the prophet, the diviner and the elder,the captain of fifty and the man of rank, the counselor, skilled craftsman and clever enchanter.“ I will make mere youths their officials; children will rule over them.”People will oppress each other— man against man, neighbor against neighbor. The young will rise up against the old, the nobody against the honored.A man will seize one of his brothers in his father’s house, and say,“ You have a cloak, you be our leader; take charge of this heap of ruins!”But in that day he will cry out,“ I have no remedy. I have no food or clothing in my house; do not make me the leader of the people.”Jerusalem staggers, Judah is falling; their words and deeds are against the Lord, defying his glorious presence. (niv)

So people will be brought low and everyone humbled— do not forgive them. (niv)
