有一位大力的天使，把一块好像大磨石一样的石头，举起来抛在海里，说：“巴比伦大城也必这样被猛力地抛下去，决不能再找到了！

“要召集弓箭手去攻击巴比伦，要召集所有拉弓的；要在巴比伦的四围安营攻击它，不容一人逃脱。要照着它的所作所为报应它，它怎样待人，你们也要怎样待它；因它狂傲地敌对耶和华，与以色列的圣者为敌。

你必唱出这首诗歌来讽刺巴比伦王，说：“欺压人的，怎么止息了呢！强暴怎么止住了呢！

彼勒俯伏，尼波弯腰；巴比伦人的偶像驮在走兽和牲口上。你们所抬的现在都成了重担，成了疲乏的牲畜身上的重负。它们一同弯腰、俯伏，不能保护重负，它们自己反倒被掳去了。

“你们要在地上竖起旗帜，在列国中吹号角，使列国作好准备攻击巴比伦，把亚拉腊、米尼、亚实基拿等国召来攻击她，又指派元帅来攻击她，使马匹像蝗虫汹涌上来。
