Then the Lord said,“ My servant Isaiah has been walking around naked and barefoot for the last three years. This is a sign— a symbol of the terrible troubles I will bring upon Egypt and Ethiopia.

Then the Lord said,“ Just as my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years, as a sign and portent against Egypt and Cush,

After Ashdod was captured, the Lord said,“ My servant Isaiah has gone around barefoot and naked for three years. He is a sign and reminder to Egypt and Cush about what will happen to them.

Then the Lord said,“ As my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and a portent against Egypt and Cush,

the LORD said,“ As my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot three years as a sign and omen against Egypt and Cush,

Then the Lord said,“ Even as My servant Isaiah has gone naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and symbol against Egypt and Cush,

Then the Lord said,“ Just as My servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and a wonder against Egypt and Ethiopia,

And Jehovah said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and a wonder concerning Egypt and concerning Ethiopia;

the Lord said,“ As My servant Isaiah has gone naked and barefoot three years as a sign and omen against Egypt and Cush,

And the LORD said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three years[ for] a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia;

Later the LORD explained,“ In the same way that my servant Isaiah has walked around in undergarments and barefoot for the past three years, as an object lesson and omen pertaining to Egypt and Cush,

Yahweh said,“ As my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and a wonder concerning Egypt and concerning Ethiopia,

I and the children the Lord has given me serve as signs and warnings to Israel from the Lord of Heaven’s Armies who dwells in his Temple on Mount Zion.

“‘ Because your men explored the land for forty days, you must wander in the wilderness for forty years— a year for each day, suffering the consequences of your sins. Then you will discover what it is like to have me for an enemy.’

But do not measure the outer courtyard, for it has been turned over to the nations. They will trample the holy city for 42 months.And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will be clothed in burlap and will prophesy during those 1,260 days.”

Soon afterward King Sennacherib received word that King Tirhakah of Ethiopia was leading an army to fight against him. Before leaving to meet the attack, he sent messengers back to Hezekiah in Jerusalem with this message:

For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I gave Egypt as a ransom for your freedom; I gave Ethiopia and Seba in your place.

Listen, Ethiopia— land of fluttering sails that lies at the headwaters of the Nile,that sends ambassadors in swift boats down the river. Go, swift messengers! Take a message to a tall, smooth skinned people, who are feared far and wide for their conquests and destruction, and whose land is divided by rivers.All you people of the world, everyone who lives on the earth— when I raise my battle flag on the mountain, look! When I blow the ram’s horn, listen!For the Lord has told me this:“ I will watch quietly from my dwelling place— as quietly as the heat rises on a summer day, or as the morning dew forms during the harvest.”Even before you begin your attack, while your plans are ripening like grapes, the Lord will cut off your new growth with pruning shears. He will snip off and discard your spreading branches.Your mighty army will be left dead in the fields for the mountain vultures and wild animals. The vultures will tear at the corpses all summer. The wild animals will gnaw at the bones all winter.At that time the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will receive gifts from this land divided by rivers, from this tall, smooth skinned people, who are feared far and wide for their conquests and destruction. They will bring the gifts to Jerusalem, where the Lord of Heaven’s Armies dwells.

I am requiring you to bear Israel’s sins for 390 days— one day for each year of their sin.After that, turn over and lie on your right side for 40 days— one day for each year of Judah’s sin.
