The Egyptians will lose heart, and I will bring their plans to nothing; they will consult the idols and the spirits of the dead, the mediums and the spiritists.

The people of Egypt will lose hope. I will keep them from doing what they plan to do. They will ask their gods for advice. They will turn to the spirits of dead people for help. They will go to people who get messages from those who have died. They will ask for advice from people who talk to the spirits of the dead.

and the spirit of the Egyptians within them will be emptied out, and I will confound their counsel; and they will inquire of the idols and the sorcerers, and the mediums and the necromancers;

The Egyptians will lose heart, and I will confuse their plans. They will plead with their idols for wisdom and call on spirits, mediums, and those who consult the spirits of the dead.

Egypt’s spirit will be disturbed within it, and I will frustrate its plans. Then they will inquire of worthless idols, ghosts, mediums, and spiritists.

Then the spirit of the Egyptians will be demoralized within them; And I will confuse their strategy, So that they will resort to idols and ghosts of the dead, And to mediums and spiritists.

The spirit of Egypt will fail in its midst; I will destroy their counsel, And they will consult the idols and the charmers, The mediums and the sorcerers.

And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst of it; and I will destroy the counsel thereof: and they shall seek unto the idols, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards.

The Egyptians will panic, and I will confuse their strategy. They will seek guidance from the idols and from the spirits of the dead, from the pits used to conjure up underworld spirits, and from the magicians.

The spirit of Egypt will fail within it. I will destroy its counsel. They will seek the idols, the charmers, those who have familiar spirits, and the wizards.

或謂爾曰、巫覡術士、其聲綿蠻微細、爾其求之、夫民豈不當求其上帝乎、詎為生者求死者哉、

乃召巫人、術士卜筮、及迦勒底人咸至、為王說夢、眾入、立於王前、

夫掃羅之死、因其干犯耶和華、不遵其命、且請示於憑鬼者、

論埃及之預示、○耶和華乘雲、迅臨埃及、埃及之偶像、必震動於其前、埃及之人民喪膽、

爾之壯士、曷被衝沒、彼之不立、因耶和華逐之也、

我處爾之日、爾心豈能忍受、爾手豈有力乎、我耶和華言之、亦必成之、

敗狡者之計、俾其所謀不得成、令智者自中其詭計、使譎者之謀早敗、

爾今起立、施爾符呪、及諸邪術、即爾自幼所勤習者、試觀其效、或能獲益、或能懾敵、

乃命引巴比倫哲士、咸詣我前、為我解夢、於是巫人術士、迦勒底人、卜筮皆至、我告以夢、彼未為我解之、

或告大衛曰、亞希多弗從押沙龍、在叛黨之中、大衛曰、耶和華歟、求爾使亞希多弗之謀、變為愚昧、

搖曳不定、蹩躠有若醉人、計窮智盡兮、

萬軍之耶和華、既定其旨、誰能廢之、既伸厥手、誰能挽之、○

彼將挫折牧伯之氣、對於世之諸王、顯其可畏兮、

我不常爭辯、不恆忿怒、恐我所造之人困憊、神性疲弊、

乃大聲而呼、命召術士、迦勒底人、卜筮咸入、王告巴比倫哲士曰、讀斯文為我解之者、必身衣絳袍、項垂金索、治國職居其三、

我使誑者之兆不驗、卜筮之輩顚狂、智者卻退、其聰慧變為愚拙、

彼眾上巴益、往底本、陟崇邱而啼哭、摩押人緣尼波與米底巴而號咷、盡髠其首、悉薙其鬚、

押沙龍及以色列眾曰、亞基人戶篩之謀、較亞希多弗之謀尤善、蓋耶和華預定敗亞希多弗之謀、以禍押沙龍、○

瑣安之牧伯愚甚、法老有智之謀士、所謀愚蠢、何謂法老曰、我乃哲人之後、前王之胤耶、爾之智者安在、萬軍之耶和華為埃及所定者、任其知之以告爾、瑣安之牧伯為愚、挪弗之牧伯見惑、埃及支派之屋隅石、引其民於迷途、

如彼問爾何為太息、必曰、因聞音耗、其事將至、使眾心怯、手疲志餒、膝弱如水、其事將至、其言必成、主耶和華言之矣、○

智慧明哲謀畧、無有能敵耶和華者、

詰朝、拿八宿酲已解、其妻告以此事、拿八心神喪失、塊然如石、

亞希多弗見其所謀不從、即備驢反故邑、歸私第、處置家事、自縊而死、葬於父墓、○

先知與王言時、王曰、我儕豈立爾為王之謀士、爾休矣、何為見撻、先知乃止、既而曰、我知上帝決意滅爾、因爾行此、不聽我勸戒也、○猶大王亞瑪謝與人謀、遣使見耶戶孫、約哈斯子、以色列王約阿施曰、來、爾我晤面、以色列王約阿施遣使見猶大王亞瑪謝曰、利巴嫩之蒺藜、遣使謂利巴嫩之香柏曰、以爾女妻我子、有利巴嫩之野獸過之、踐其蒺藜、爾謂我已擊以東人、乃心高而自誇、安居於家可耳、何為招禍、以致傾覆、猶大與爾偕亡乎、亞瑪謝弗聽、此乃由於上帝、欲付之於敵手、因其求以東神也、

蓋斯世之智、於上帝為愚、記有之、主令智者自中其詭計、又曰、主知智者之意念皆虛、
