禍哉！古實河的那一邊、翅膀刷刷作響之地，

古實河那邊、翅膀刷刷作響之地有禍了！

啊，古實河外飛蝗翅膀刷刷響之地，

Woe to the land of whirring wings along the rivers of Cush,

How terrible it will be for the land whose armies are like large numbers of flying insects! That land is along the rivers of Cush.

Ah, land of whirring wings that is beyond the rivers of Cush,

Listen, Ethiopia— land of fluttering sails that lies at the headwaters of the Nile,

Woe to the land of buzzing insect wings beyond the rivers of Cush,

Woe, land of whirring wings Which lies beyond the rivers of Cush,

Woe to the land shadowed with buzzing wings, Which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia,

Ah, the land of the rustling of wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia;

Ah! The land of buzzing insect wings beyond the rivers of Cush

Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which[ is] beyond the rivers of Ethiopia:

Ah, the land of the rustling of wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia;

From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia, those who pray to me will bring me tribute.

“ You Ethiopians will also die by my sword!”

The king heard that King Tirhakah of Ethiopia was marching out to fight him. He again sent messengers to Hezekiah, ordering them:

A sword will come against Egypt and panic will overtake Ethiopia when the slain fall in Egypt and they carry away her wealth and dismantle her foundations.Ethiopia, Put, Lud, all the foreigners, Libya, and the people of the covenant land will die by the sword along with them.

Later the LORD explained,“ In the same way that my servant Isaiah has walked around in undergarments and barefoot for the past three years, as an object lesson and omen pertaining to Egypt and Cush,so the king of Assyria will lead away the captives of Egypt and the exiles of Cush, both young and old. They will be in undergarments and barefoot, with the buttocks exposed; the Egyptians will be publicly humiliated.Those who put their hope in Cush and took pride in Egypt will be afraid and embarrassed.At that time those who live on this coast will say,‘ Look what has happened to our source of hope to whom we fled for help, expecting to be rescued from the king of Assyria! How can we escape now?’”

They travel down to Egypt without seeking my will, seeking Pharaoh’s protection, and looking for safety in Egypt’s protective shade.But Pharaoh’s protection will bring you nothing but shame, and the safety of Egypt’s protective shade nothing but humiliation.

Have mercy on me, O God! Have mercy on me! For in you I have taken shelter. In the shadow of your wings I take shelter until trouble passes.

Those who go down to Egypt for help are as good as dead, those who rely on war horses, and trust in Egypt’s many chariots and in their many, many horsemen. But they do not rely on the Holy One of Israel and do not seek help from the LORD.

Protect me as you would protect the pupil of your eye! Hide me in the shadow of your wings!

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often I have longed to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you would have none of it!

For you are my deliverer; under your wings I rejoice.

He will shelter you with his wings; you will find safety under his wings. His faithfulness is like a shield or a protective wall.

How precious is your loyal love, O God! The human race finds shelter under your wings.

On that day messengers will go out from me in ships to frighten overly confident Ethiopia; panic will overtake them on the day of Egypt’s doom; for beware– it is coming!

I will be a permanent guest in your home; I will find shelter in the protection of your wings.( Selah)

May the LORD reward your efforts! May your acts of kindness be repaid fully by the LORD God of Israel, from whom you have sought protection!”
