In that day their strong cities, which they left because of the Israelites, will be like places abandoned to thickets and undergrowth. And all will be desolation.

At that time the strong cities in Israel will be deserted. They will be as they were when the Israelites drove the Canaanites away. They will be like places that are taken over by bushes and weeds. The whole land will become dry and empty.

In that day their strong cities will be like the deserted places of the wooded heights and the hilltops, which they deserted because of the children of Israel, and there will be desolation.

Their largest cities will be like a deserted forest, like the land the Hivites and Amorites abandoned when the Israelites came here so long ago. It will be utterly desolate.

On that day their strong cities will be like the abandoned woods and mountaintops that were abandoned because of the Israelites; there will be desolation.

堅固的城變為淒涼，成了被撇下、被遺棄的居所，像曠野一樣；牛犢在那裡吃草、躺臥，吃盡那裡的樹枝。

禍哉！以法蓮酒徒的高傲冠冕——榮耀華美的將殘之花！它就在醉酒人肥沃之谷的山頂上。看哪！主有一位大能大力者，如冰雹暴雨，如毀滅的狂風，又如洶湧衝擊的雨水；他必親手把它摔落在地。以法蓮酒徒的高傲冠冕，必被踩踏在腳下；在肥沃之谷的山頂上，榮耀華美的將殘之花，必像夏天之前初熟的無花果；人看見它，一拿到手中就會吞掉。

以法蓮和住撒馬利亞的眾民知道了，就心思自高自大，說：「磚頭墜落了，我們就用鑿好的石頭重建；桑樹砍倒了，我們就用香柏樹更換！」因此，耶和華必興起利汛的敵人來攻擊以色列，並且要激起以色列的仇敵，東有亞蘭人，西有非利士人，來張口吞噬以色列。即使如此，耶和華的怒氣還不轉消，他的手仍然伸出。

看哪！耶和華使大地空廢，變得荒涼；又使地面扭曲，使地上的居民四散。那時，百姓怎樣，祭司也怎樣；僕人怎樣，主人也怎樣；婢女怎樣，主母也怎樣；購買的怎樣，販賣的也怎樣；借給人的怎樣，向人借的也怎樣；放債的怎樣，借債的也怎樣。大地必徹底空廢，被掠奪淨盡，因為耶和華已經說了這話。大地悲涼凋萎，世界衰落凋萎，地上權高位重的人也衰落了。大地被其上的居民玷汙，因為他們違背律法，違犯律例，破壞永遠的約。因此詛咒吞噬大地，其上的居民必承受罪責；因此地上的居民被焚燒，只有少數人殘留下來。新酒枯竭，葡萄樹衰殘，心裡歡樂的都嘆息。歡快的鼓聲止息，歡騰者的喧嚷停止，歡快的琴聲也止息了。他們不再喝酒唱歌；烈酒對飲者也變得苦澀。荒涼的城邑破敗，家家關門閉戶，無人能進。街上有為酒哭喊的聲音；一切歡樂都已黯淡，地上的喜樂都已離去。城中只有廢墟殘留，城門被打得破碎不堪。

因為在這孩子知道棄惡擇善之前，你所懼怕的那兩個王的土地必被遺棄。耶和華必使亞述王攻擊的日子臨到你、你的子民和你的父家；這是自從以法蓮脫離猶大以來，未曾有過的日子。「到那日，耶和華必發出哨聲，召來埃及江河源頭的蒼蠅和亞述地的刺蜂。牠們全都會飛來，停落在深谷中、巖石縫裡、所有的荊棘叢中、所有的草場上。「到那日，主必雇用幼發拉底河對岸的剃刀——亞述王，剃光你們的頭髮和腳毛，也刮掉你們的鬍鬚。

我就說：「主啊，這要到什麼時候呢？」他說：「直到城鎮廢棄，無人居住，房屋空無一人，土地廢棄荒涼的時候；那時，耶和華必把人遷到遠方，在這地上必有很多被遺棄之處。這地必被再次焚燒，其中還會有十分之一的人存留，就像黃連樹和橡樹被砍伐，其中還會有樹樁存留；聖潔的後裔就是這樹樁。」

「到那日，雅各的榮耀必衰微，他肥壯的身體必消瘦；但事情卻要像這樣成就：當收割的人聚攏禾杆、用手割取穗子，拾穗的人在利乏音谷撿拾穗子時，
