They won’t trust in the altars they made with their own hands. They won’t pay any attention to the poles they used to worship the female god named Asherah. And they won’t depend on the incense altars they made with their own fingers.

He will not look to the altars, the work of his hands, and he will not look on what his own fingers have made, either the Asherim or the altars of incense.

They will no longer look to their idols for help or worship what their own hands have made. They will never again bow down to their Asherah poles or worship at the pagan shrines they have built.

They will not look to the altars they made with their hands or to the Asherahs and shrines they made with their fingers.

Then you will desecrate your idols overlaid with silver and your images covered with gold; you will throw them away like a menstrual cloth and say to them,“ Away with you!”

By this, then, will Jacob’s guilt be atoned for, and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin: When he makes all the altar stones to be like limestone crushed to pieces, no Asherah poles or incense altars will be left standing.

I will destroy your idols and your sacred stones from among you; you will no longer bow down to the work of your hands.I will uproot from among you your Asherah poles when I demolish your cities.

Their land is full of idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their fingers have made.

It is used as fuel for burning; some of it he takes and warms himself, he kindles a fire and bakes bread. But he also fashions a god and worships it; he makes an idol and bows down to it.

Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and cut down their Asherah poles.

“ On that day, I will banish the names of the idols from the land, and they will be remembered no more,” declares the Lord Almighty.“ I will remove both the prophets and the spirit of impurity from the land.

He removed the high places and incense altars in every town in Judah, and the kingdom was at peace under him.

Israel was a spreading vine; he brought forth fruit for himself. As his fruit increased, he built more altars; as his land prospered, he adorned his sacred stones.Their heart is deceitful, and now they must bear their guilt. The Lord will demolish their altars and destroy their sacred stones.

When Ephraim spoke, people trembled; he was exalted in Israel. But he became guilty of Baal worship and died.Now they sin more and more; they make idols for themselves from their silver, cleverly fashioned images, all of them the work of craftsmen. It is said of these people,“ They offer human sacrifices! They kiss calf- idols!”

“ I will sweep away both man and beast; I will sweep away the birds in the sky and the fish in the sea— and the idols that cause the wicked to stumble.”“ When I destroy all mankind on the face of the earth,” declares the Lord,

Return, you Israelites, to the One you have so greatly revolted against.For in that day every one of you will reject the idols of silver and gold your sinful hands have made.

“ You will be ashamed because of the sacred oaks in which you have delighted; you will be disgraced because of the gardens that you have chosen.

No one stops to think, no one has the knowledge or understanding to say,“ Half of it I used for fuel; I even baked bread over its coals, I roasted meat and I ate. Shall I make a detestable thing from what is left? Shall I bow down to a block of wood?”Such a person feeds on ashes; a deluded heart misleads him; he cannot save himself, or say,“ Is not this thing in my right hand a lie?”

Under his direction the altars of the Baals were torn down; he cut to pieces the incense altars that were above them, and smashed the Asherah poles and the idols. These he broke to pieces and scattered over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.

They set up kings without my consent; they choose princes without my approval. With their silver and gold they make idols for themselves to their own destruction.Samaria, throw out your calf- idol! My anger burns against them. How long will they be incapable of purity?They are from Israel! This calf— a metalworker has made it; it is not God. It will be broken in pieces, that calf of Samaria.

Ephraim, what more have I to do with idols? I will answer him and care for him. I am like a flourishing juniper; your fruitfulness comes from me.”

In the towns of Manasseh, Ephraim and Simeon, as far as Naphtali, and in the ruins around them,he tore down the altars and the Asherah poles and crushed the idols to powder and cut to pieces all the incense altars throughout Israel. Then he went back to Jerusalem.

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols.
