当晚，耶和华的天使到亚述营中杀了十八万五千人。人们清早起来，发现到处是尸体。

你们必饱受羞辱，毫无荣耀。你们喝吧，露出下体吧！耶和华右手中的杯将传给你们，你们的荣耀将变成羞辱。你们以暴虐对待黎巴嫩，自己必被暴虐吞噬；你们毁灭野兽，自己必被恐怖笼罩。因为你们杀人流血，摧毁土地、城市和人民。

亚述大军攻占了亚叶，穿过米矶仑，把辎重存放在密抹。他们过了关口，在迦巴宿营。拉玛人战战兢兢，扫罗的乡亲基比亚人仓皇逃跑。迦琳人啊，高声喊叫吧！莱煞人啊，可怜的亚拿突人啊，留心听吧！玛得米纳人逃跑，基柄人躲藏。那时，亚述王必屯兵挪伯，向着锡安城的山岭，向着耶路撒冷的山丘摩拳擦掌。

以色列是耶和华的圣民，是属于祂的初熟果子。吞吃它的必担当罪责，大祸临头。这是耶和华说的。’”

对他说：“希西迦说，‘今天是遭难、蒙羞、受辱的日子，就像婴儿要出生，产妇却无力生产一样。

这是你应得的报应，是我量给你的，因为你把我抛诸脑后，信靠假神。这是耶和华说的。

这便是上帝为恶人定下的结局，为他们预备的归宿。”

因为耶和华必为他们申冤，夺去掠夺他们之人的性命。

耶和华啊，愿你的敌人都像西西拉一样灭亡！愿爱你的人如升起的太阳，光辉熠熠！”此后，以色列安享太平四十年。

你们这些毁灭别人、自己还未被毁灭的人有祸了！等你们毁灭完了，就毁灭你们。你们这些欺诈别人、自己还未被欺诈的人有祸了！等你们欺诈完了，就欺诈你们。

他们不必到田间拾柴，或到林中伐木，因为有兵器当燃料。他们要抢夺那些抢夺过他们的人，掳掠那些掳掠过他们的人。这是主耶和华说的。

再一看，他已经消失得无影无踪，无处可寻。
