The people of Heshbon and Elealeh cry out. Their voices are heard all the way to Jahaz. So the fighting men of Moab cry out. Their hearts are weak.

Heshbon and Elealeh cry out; their voice is heard as far as Jahaz; therefore the armed men of Moab cry aloud; his soul trembles.

The people of Heshbon and Elealeh will cry out; their voices will be heard as far away as Jahaz! The bravest warriors of Moab will cry out in utter terror. They will be helpless with fear.

Heshbon and Elealeh cry out; their voices are heard as far away as Jahaz. Therefore the soldiers of Moab cry out, and they tremble.

Heshbon and Elealeh also cry out, Their voice is heard all the way to Jahaz; Therefore the armed men of Moab cry aloud; His soul trembles within him.

Heshbon and Elealeh will cry out, Their voice shall be heard as far as Jahaz; Therefore the armed soldiers of Moab will cry out; His life will be burdensome to him.

And Heshbon crieth out, and Elealeh; their voice is heard even unto Jahaz: therefore the armed men of Moab cry aloud; his soul trembleth within him.

And Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh: their voice shall be heard[ even] unto Jahaz: therefore the armed soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his life shall be grievous unto him.

The people of Heshbon and Elealeh cry out, their voices are heard as far away as Jahaz. For this reason Moab’s soldiers shout in distress; their courage wavers.

Heshbon cries out with Elealeh. Their voice is heard even to Jahaz. Therefore the armed men of Moab cry aloud. Their souls tremble within them.

“ The sound of their cry rises from Heshbon to Elealeh and Jahaz, from Zoar as far as Horonaim and Eglath Shelishiyah, for even the waters of Nimrim are dried up.

Now, Lord, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live.”

When the sun rose, God provided a scorching east wind, and the sun blazed on Jonah’s head so that he grew faint. He wanted to die, and said,“ It would be better for me to die than to live.”

so that I prefer strangling and death, rather than this body of mine.I despise my life; I would not live forever. Let me alone; my days have no meaning.

Why did I ever come out of the womb to see trouble and sorrow and to end my days in shame?

If this is how you are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me— if I have found favor in your eyes— and do not let me face my own ruin.”

Sihon, however, did not trust Israel to pass through his territory. He mustered all his troops and encamped at Jahaz and fought with Israel.

During those days people will seek death but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them.

Wherever I banish them, all the survivors of this evil nation will prefer death to life, declares the Lord Almighty.’

When Sihon and all his army came out to meet us in battle at Jahaz,

Then Rebekah said to Isaac,“ I’m disgusted with living because of these Hittite women. If Jacob takes a wife from among the women of this land, from Hittite women like these, my life will not be worth living.”

while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die.“ I have had enough, Lord,” he said.“ Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”

“ Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo and Beon—the land the Lord subdued before the people of Israel— are suitable for livestock, and your servants have livestock.

But Sihon would not let Israel pass through his territory. He mustered his entire army and marched out into the wilderness against Israel. When he reached Jahaz, he fought with Israel.

The fields of Heshbon wither, the vines of Sibmah also. The rulers of the nations have trampled down the choicest vines, which once reached Jazer and spread toward the desert. Their shoots spread out and went as far as the sea.So I weep, as Jazer weeps, for the vines of Sibmah. Heshbon and Elealeh, I drench you with tears! The shouts of joy over your ripened fruit and over your harvests have been stilled.

“ Why is light given to those in misery, and life to the bitter of soul,to those who long for death that does not come, who search for it more than for hidden treasure,who are filled with gladness and rejoice when they reach the grave?
