When they became angry, they struck down nations. Their blows never stopped. In their anger they brought nations under their control. They attacked them again and again.

I was distressed when I heard it; I was dismayed when I saw it.My heart wavered, fearfulness frightened me; The night for which I longed He turned into fear for me.Prepare the table, Set a watchman in the tower, Eat and drink. Arise, you princes, Anoint the shield!For thus has the Lord said to me:“ Go, set a watchman, Let him declare what he sees.”And he saw a chariot with a pair of horsemen, A chariot of donkeys, and a chariot of camels, And he listened earnestly with great care.Then he cried,“ A lion, my Lord! Therefore her plagues will come in one day— death and mourning and famine. For you shall no more be called Tender and delicate.Take the millstones and grind meal. And desolation shall come upon you suddenly, Which you shall not know.“ Stand now with your enchantments And the multitude of your sorceries, In which you have labored from your youth— Perhaps you will be able to profit, Perhaps you will prevail.You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels; Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, And the monthly prognosticators Stand up and save you From what shall come upon you.Behold, they shall be as stubble, The fire shall burn them; They shall not deliver themselves From the power of the flame; It shall not be a coal to be warmed by, Nor a fire to sit before!Thus shall they be to you With whom you have labored, Your merchants from your youth; They shall wander each one to his quarter. No one shall save you.

Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying,‘ My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,’Calling a bird of prey from the east, The man who executes My counsel, from a far country. Indeed I have spoken it; I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed it; I will also do it.

There is no wisdom or understanding Or counsel against the Lord.

“ Behold, I am against you, O most haughty one!” says the Lord GOD of hosts;“ For your day has come, The time that I will punish you.

God will not withdraw His anger, The allies of the proud lie prostrate beneath Him.

It shall be as the hunted gazelle, And as a sheep that no man takes up; Every man will turn to his own people, And everyone will flee to his own land.Everyone who is found will be thrust through, And everyone who is captured will fall by the sword.Their children also will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; Their houses will be plundered And their wives ravished.“ Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, Who will not regard silver; And as for gold, they will not delight in it.Also their bows will dash the young men to pieces, And they will have no pity on the fruit of the womb; Their eye will not spare children.

My hand has found like a nest the riches of the people, And as one gathers eggs that are left, I have gathered all the earth; And there was no one who moved his wing, Nor opened his mouth with even a peep.”

Therefore He brought against them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or virgin, on the aged or the weak; He gave them all into his hand.

Woe to you who plunder, though you have not been plundered; And you who deal treacherously, though they have not dealt treacherously with you! When you cease plundering, You will be plundered; When you make an end of dealing treacherously, They will deal treacherously with you.

For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
