you will taunt the king of Babylon. You will say,“ The mighty man has been destroyed. Yes, your insolence is ended.

you will sing this song of contempt about the king of Babylon and say: How the oppressor has quieted down, and how the raging has become quiet!

that you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon, and say,“ How the oppressor has ceased, And how the onslaught has ceased!

that thou shalt take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!

you will sing this song of contempt about the king of Babylon and say: How the oppressor has quieted down, and how the raging has become quiet!

That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!

you will taunt the king of Babylon with these words:“ Look how the oppressor has met his end! Hostility has ceased!

that you will take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say,“ How the oppressor has ceased! The golden city has ceased!”

and saying,‘ Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls!

I will feed those who oppress you with their own flesh, And they shall be drunk with their own blood as with sweet wine. All flesh shall know That I, the Lord, am your Savior, And your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”

‘ I will go before you And make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze And cut the bars of iron.I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden riches of secret places, That you may know that I, the Lord, Who call you by your name, Am the God of Israel.

“ Then I wished to know the truth about the fourth beast, which was different from all the others, exceedingly dreadful, with its teeth of iron and its nails of bronze, which devoured, broke in pieces, and trampled the residue with its feet;and the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn which came up, before which three fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth which spoke pompous words, whose appearance was greater than his fellows.“ I was watching; and the same horn was making war against the saints, and prevailing against them,until the Ancient of Days came, and a judgment was made in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for the saints to possess the kingdom.“ Thus he said:‘ The fourth beast shall be A fourth kingdom on earth, Which shall be different from all other kingdoms, And shall devour the whole earth, Trample it and break it in pieces.The ten horns are ten kings Who shall arise from this kingdom. And another shall rise after them; He shall be different from the first ones, And shall subdue three kings.He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, Shall persecute the saints of the Most High, And shall intend to change times and law. Then the saints shall be given into his hand For a time and times and half a time.

behold, I will send and take all the families of the north,’ says the Lord,‘ and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, against its inhabitants, and against these nations all around, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, a hissing, and perpetual desolations.Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp.And this whole land shall be a desolation and an astonishment, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.‘ Then it will come to pass, when seventy years are completed, that I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity,’ says the Lord;‘ and I will make it a perpetual desolation.So I will bring on that land all My words which I have pronounced against it, all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah has prophesied concerning all the nations.( For many nations and great kings shall be served by them also; and I will repay them according to their deeds and according to the works of their own hands.)’”

And all the articles from the house of God, great and small, the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king and of his leaders, all these he took to Babylon.

“ Sit in silence, and go into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans; For you shall no longer be called The Lady of Kingdoms.

And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, The beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride, Will be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

Who made the world as a wilderness And destroyed its cities, Who did not open the house of his prisoners?’

“ Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon Has devoured me, he has crushed me; He has made me an empty vessel, He has swallowed me up like a monster; He has filled his stomach with my delicacies, He has spit me out.Let the violence done to me and my flesh be upon Babylon,” The inhabitant of Zion will say;“ And my blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea!” Jerusalem will say.

And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant; and the beasts of the field I have also given him to serve him.So all nations shall serve him and his son and his son’s son, until the time of his land comes; and then many nations and great kings shall make him serve them.

“ You are My battle-ax and weapons of war: For with you I will break the nation in pieces; With you I will destroy kingdoms;With you I will break in pieces the horse and its rider; With you I will break in pieces the chariot and its rider;With you also I will break in pieces man and woman; With you I will break in pieces old and young; With you I will break in pieces the young man and the maiden;With you also I will break in pieces the shepherd and his flock; With you I will break in pieces the farmer and his yoke of oxen; And with you I will break in pieces governors and rulers.“ And I will repay Babylon And all the inhabitants of Chaldea For all the evil they have done In Zion in your sight,” says the Lord.

“ Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!”

“ Will not all these take up a proverb against him, And a taunting riddle against him, and say,‘ Woe to him who increases What is not his— how long? And to him who loads himself with many pledges’?Will not your creditors rise up suddenly? Will they not awaken who oppress you? And you will become their booty.Because you have plundered many nations, All the remnant of the people shall plunder you, Because of men’s blood And the violence of the land and the city, And of all who dwell in it.“ Woe to him who covets evil gain for his house, That he may set his nest on high, That he may be delivered from the power of disaster!You give shameful counsel to your house, Cutting off many peoples, And sin against your soul.For the stone will cry out from the wall, And the beam from the timbers will answer it.“ Woe to him who builds a town with bloodshed, Who establishes a city by iniquity!

He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads,and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

O Lord, how long shall I cry, And You will not hear? Even cry out to You,“ Violence!” And You will not save.Why do You show me iniquity, And cause me to see trouble? For plundering and violence are before me; There is strife, and contention arises.Therefore the law is powerless, And justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; Therefore perverse judgment proceeds.“ Look among the nations and watch— Be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days Which you would not believe, though it were told you.For indeed I am raising up the Chaldeans, A bitter and hasty nation Which marches through the breadth of the earth, To possess dwelling places that are not theirs.They are terrible and dreadful; Their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves.Their horses also are swifter than leopards, And more fierce than evening wolves. Their chargers charge ahead; Their cavalry comes from afar; They fly as the eagle that hastens to eat.“ They all come for violence; Their faces are set like the east wind. They gather captives like sand.They scoff at kings, And princes are scorned by them. They deride every stronghold, For they heap up earthen mounds and seize it.

For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.Render to her just as she rendered to you, and repay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix double for her.In the measure that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart,‘ I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’Therefore her plagues will come in one day— death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her.

And I heard the angel of the waters saying:“ You are righteous, O Lord, The One who is and who was and who is to be, Because You have judged these things.For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, And You have given them blood to drink. For it is their just due.”

But I will put it into the hand of those who afflict you, Who have said to you,‘ Lie down, that we may walk over you.’ And you have laid your body like the ground, And as the street, for those who walk over.”

For the violence done to Lebanon will cover you, And the plunder of beasts which made them afraid, Because of men’s blood And the violence of the land and the city, And of all who dwell in it.

A sound of battle is in the land, And of great destruction.How the hammer of the whole earth has been cut apart and broken! How Babylon has become a desolation among the nations!

I will deliver them to trouble into all the kingdoms of the earth, for their harm, to be a reproach and a byword, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I shall drive them.

and wherever the children of men dwell, or the beasts of the field and the birds of the heaven, He has given them into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all— you are this head of gold.

‘ So it shall be a reproach, a taunt, a lesson, and an astonishment to the nations that are all around you, when I execute judgments among you in anger and in fury and in furious rebukes. I, the Lord, have spoken.

He who struck the people in wrath with a continual stroke, He who ruled the nations in anger, Is persecuted and no one hinders.

How the gold has become dim! How changed the fine gold! The stones of the sanctuary are scattered At the head of every street.

I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement.

For You have broken the yoke of his burden And the staff of his shoulder, The rod of his oppressor, As in the day of Midian.
