耶和華的使者出去，在亞述營中殺了十八萬五千人。清早有人起來，看哪，都是死屍。亞述王西拿基立就拔營回去，住在尼尼微。一日，他在他的神明尼斯洛廟裏叩拜，他兒子亞得米勒和沙利色用刀殺了他，然後逃到亞拉臘地；他兒子以撒‧哈頓接續他作王。

現在，我要從你身上折斷他的軛，解開捆綁你的繩索。」

因此，主－萬軍之耶和華必使亞述王的壯士變為瘦弱，在他的榮華之下必有火點燃，如同火在燃燒一般。以色列的光必變成火，它的聖者必成為火焰；一日之間，將亞述王的荊棘和蒺藜焚燒淨盡，又毀滅樹林和田園的榮華，連魂帶體，好像病重的人消逝一樣。他林中只剩下稀少的樹木，連孩童也能寫其數目。

耶和華必使人聽見他威嚴的聲音，又以極大的憤怒、吞滅的火焰、雷雨、暴風和像石塊的冰雹，使人看見他降罰的膀臂。亞述必因耶和華的聲音驚惶，耶和華必用杖擊打它。耶和華必將定規要打的杖加在它身上；每打一下，都必配合擊鼓彈琴的節奏。打仗時，耶和華必振臂與它交戰。原來陀斐特早已預備好了，是為君王預備的；又深又寬，堆滿了火和木柴；耶和華的氣息猶如一股硫磺使它燃起。

當那日，亞述王要在挪伯停留，揮手攻擊錫安的山，就是耶路撒冷的山。看哪，主－萬軍之耶和華以猛撞削斷樹枝；巨木必被砍下，高大的樹必降為低。稠密的樹林，他要用鐵器砍下，黎巴嫩必被大能者伐倒。

所以，萬軍之主耶和華如此說：「住錫安我的百姓啊，亞述王雖然用棍擊打你，又如埃及舉杖攻擊你，你不要怕他。因為還有一點點時候，我向你們發的憤怒就要結束，我的怒氣要使他們滅亡。萬軍之耶和華要舉起鞭子來攻擊他，好像在俄立磐石那裏擊打米甸人一樣。他的杖向海伸出，他必把杖舉起，如在埃及一般。到那日，亞述王的重擔必離開你的肩頭，他的軛必離開你的頸項；那軛必因肥壯而撐斷。」

耶和華折斷惡人的杖，打斷統治者的權杖；

亞述必倒在刀下，並非人的刀；有刀要將它吞滅，並非人的刀。它要逃避這刀，它的年輕人必做苦工。它的磐石必因驚嚇而消失，它的領袖必因大旗驚惶；這是那有火在錫安、有爐在耶路撒冷的耶和華說的。

主在錫安山和耶路撒冷成就他一切工作的時候，說：「我必懲罰亞述王自大的心和他高傲尊貴的眼目。」

你和你的全軍，並跟隨你的列國的人，都必倒在以色列的羣山上。我要將你給各類攫食的飛鳥和野地的走獸作食物。

唉！萬民鬧鬨，好像海浪澎湃，列邦喧鬧，如同洪水滔滔，列邦喧鬧，如同大水滔滔；但上帝一斥責，他們就遠遠躲避，他們被追趕，如同山上風前的糠粃，又如暴風前的碎稭；看哪，晚上有驚嚇，未到早晨它就消失無蹤。這是擄掠我們之人的厄運，是搶奪我們之人的報應。
