旷野的走兽却会躺卧在那里，咆哮的野兽必占满他们的房屋，鸵鸟住在那里，野山羊在那里跳跃，土狼在城楼、豺狗在华美的宫殿嚎叫。巴比伦的那一刻临近了，它的时日必不延长！

鹈鹕和豪猪将占有那地，猫头鹰和乌鸦将居住其中；耶和华要把准绳和线砣拉在其上，使它变得空虚混沌。那里没有贵族来宣称王权，所有的首领也都归于无有。它的城堡将长出荆棘，堡垒长出灌木丛和蒺藜；它必成为豺狗的巢、鸵鸟的窝。旷野的走兽要与土狼相遇，野山羊要呼叫同伴，夜行动物要在那里栖身，为自己找到歇息之处。猫头鹰要在那里筑窝、下蛋、孵化，并在它的阴影下聚拢幼雏；鹰隼也在那里各与自己的伴偶聚集。

随后，一位强有力的天使拿起一块像大磨石那样的石头，把它丢进海里，说：“大巴比伦城也将这样被猛烈地扔下去，绝不会再找到了！弹琴的、奏乐的、吹笛的、吹号之人的声音，在你中间绝不会再听到了！各种手艺的工匠，在你中间绝不会再找到了！磨石的声音，在你中间绝不会再听到了！灯的亮光，在你中间绝不会再照耀了！新郎和新娘的声音，在你中间绝不会再听到了！因为你的商人一向是地上的大人物，又因为万国都被你的邪术所迷惑，

另一位天使，就是第二位天使跟着说：“倒塌了！大巴比伦倒塌了！她给万国喝了她淫乱愤怒的酒。”

他用强有力的声音呼喊说：“倒塌了！大巴比伦倒塌了！她成了鬼魔居住的地方、一切污灵的巢穴、一切污秽鸟类的巢穴、一切污秽可憎野兽的巢穴。
