In that day you will say:“ I will praise you, Lord. Although you were angry with me, your anger has turned away and you have comforted me.

In days to come, the people of Israel will sing,“ Lord, we will praise you. You were angry with us. But now your anger has turned away from us. And you have brought us comfort.

You will say in that day:“ I will give thanks to you, O Lord, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me.

On that day you will say:“ I will give thanks to you, LORD, although you were angry with me. Your anger has turned away, and you have comforted me.

Then you will say on that day,“ I will give thanks to You, Lord; For although You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, And You comfort me.

And in that day you will say:“ O Lord, I will praise You; Though You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, and You comfort me.

And in that day thou shalt say, I will give thanks unto thee, O Jehovah; for though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away and thou comfortest me.

On that day you will say:“ I will praise You, Lord, although You were angry with me. Your anger has turned away, and You have had compassion on me.

And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me.

At that time you will say:“ I praise you, O LORD, for even though you were angry with me, your anger subsided, and you consoled me.

In that day you will say,“ I will give thanks to you, Yahweh; for though you were angry with me, your anger has turned away and you comfort me.

O Lord, I will honor and praise your name, for you are my God. You do such wonderful things! You planned them long ago, and now you have accomplished them.

For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.

In a burst of anger I turned my face away for a little while. But with everlasting love I will have compassion on you,” says the Lord, your Redeemer.

And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day there will be one Lord— his name alone will be worshiped.

In that wonderful day when the Lord gives his people rest from sorrow and fear, from slavery and chains,

“ Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God.“ Speak tenderly to Jerusalem. Tell her that her sad days are gone and her sins are pardoned. Yes, the Lord has punished her twice over for all her sins.”

In that day the Lord will take his terrible, swift sword and punish Leviathan, the swiftly moving serpent, the coiling, writhing serpent. He will kill the dragon of the sea.“ In that day, sing about the fruitful vineyard.I, the Lord, will watch over it, watering it carefully. Day and night I will watch so no one can harm it.

The Lord will comfort Israel again and have pity on her ruins. Her desert will blossom like Eden, her barren wilderness like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found there. Songs of thanksgiving will fill the air.

Sing for joy, O heavens! Rejoice, O earth! Burst into song, O mountains! For the Lord has comforted his people and will have compassion on them in their suffering.

The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this:“ I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.For I will not fight against you forever; I will not always be angry. If I were, all people would pass away— all the souls I have made.I was angry, so I punished these greedy people. I withdrew from them, but they kept going on their own stubborn way.I have seen what they do, but I will heal them anyway! I will lead them. I will comfort those who mourn,

Violence will disappear from your land; the desolation and destruction of war will end. Salvation will surround you like city walls, and praise will be on the lips of all who enter there.“ No longer will you need the sun to shine by day, nor the moon to give its light by night, for the Lord your God will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.

I turned my face away and punished them because of their defilement and their sins.“ So now, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will end the captivity of my people; I will have mercy on all Israel, for I jealously guard my holy reputation!They will accept responsibility for their past shame and unfaithfulness after they come home to live in peace in their own land, with no one to bother them.When I bring them home from the lands of their enemies, I will display my holiness among them for all the nations to see.Then my people will know that I am the Lord their God, because I sent them away to exile and brought them home again. I will leave none of my people behind.And I will never again turn my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit upon the people of Israel. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!”

In that day the people will proclaim,“ This is our God! We trusted in him, and he saved us! This is the Lord, in whom we trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings!”

“ Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces; now he will heal us. He has injured us; now he will bandage our wounds.

In that day the heir to David’s throne will be a banner of salvation to all the world. The nations will rally to him, and the land where he lives will be a glorious place.In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to bring back the remnant of his people— those who remain in Assyria and northern Egypt; in southern Egypt, Ethiopia, and Elam; in Babylonia, Hamath, and all the distant coastlands.

Those who have been ransomed by the Lord will return. They will enter Jerusalem singing, crowned with everlasting joy. Sorrow and mourning will disappear, and they will be filled with joy and gladness.

Human pride will be brought down, and human arrogance will be humbled. Only the Lord will be exalted on that day of judgment.

The Lord says,“ Then I will heal you of your faithlessness; my love will know no bounds, for my anger will be gone forever.I will be to Israel like a refreshing dew from heaven. Israel will blossom like the lily; it will send roots deep into the soil like the cedars in Lebanon.Its branches will spread out like beautiful olive trees, as fragrant as the cedars of Lebanon.My people will again live under my shade. They will flourish like grain and blossom like grapevines. They will be as fragrant as the wines of Lebanon.“ O Israel, stay away from idols! I am the one who answers your prayers and cares for you. I am like a tree that is always green; all your fruit comes from me.”Let those who are wise understand these things. Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths sinners stumble and fall.

Praise him, O heaven and earth, the seas and all that move in them.For God will save Jerusalem and rebuild the towns of Judah. His people will live there and settle in their own land.The descendants of those who obey him will inherit the land, and those who love him will live there in safety.

I will comfort you there in Jerusalem as a mother comforts her child.”

Long live the king! May the gold of Sheba be given to him. May the people always pray for him and bless him all day long.May there be abundant grain throughout the land, flourishing even on the hilltops. May the fruit trees flourish like the trees of Lebanon, and may the people thrive like grass in a field.May the king’s name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun shines. May all nations be blessed through him and bring him praise.Praise the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does such wonderful things.Praise his glorious name forever! Let the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and amen!

Let the praises of God be in their mouths, and a sharp sword in their hands—to execute vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples,to bind their kings with shackles and their leaders with iron chains,to execute the judgment written against them. This is the glorious privilege of his faithful ones. Praise the Lord!

For since their rejection meant that God offered salvation to the rest of the world, their acceptance will be even more wonderful. It will be life for those who were dead!

I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak his praises.I will boast only in the Lord; let all who are helpless take heart.Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together.I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles.For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!Fear the Lord, you his godly people, for those who fear him will have all they need.Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing.Come, my children, and listen to me, and I will teach you to fear the Lord.Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous?Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies!Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help.But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil; he will erase their memory from the earth.The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles.The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.For the Lord protects the bones of the righteous; not one of them is broken!Calamity will surely destroy the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be punished.But the Lord will redeem those who serve him. No one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.

May God be merciful and bless us. May his face smile with favor on us. Yet the time will come when the Lord will gather them together like handpicked grain. One by one he will gather them— from the Euphrates River in the east to the Brook of Egypt in the west.In that day the great trumpet will sound. Many who were dying in exile in Assyria and Egypt will return to Jerusalem to worship the Lord on his holy mountain.

“ In the future, when you experience all these blessings and curses I have listed for you, and when you are living among the nations to which the Lord your God has exiled you, take to heart all these instructions.If at that time you and your children return to the Lord your God, and if you obey with all your heart and all your soul all the commands I have given you today,then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes. He will have mercy on you and gather you back from all the nations where he has scattered you.

Lord, you poured out blessings on your land! You restored the fortunes of Israel.You forgave the guilt of your people— yes, you covered all their sins. InterludeYou held back your fury. You kept back your blazing anger.

I have heard Israel saying,‘ You disciplined me severely, like a calf that needs training for the yoke. Turn me again to you and restore me, for you alone are the Lord my God.I turned away from God, but then I was sorry. I kicked myself for my stupidity! I was thoroughly ashamed of all I did in my younger days.’“ Is not Israel still my son, my darling child?” says the Lord.“ I often have to punish him, but I still love him. That’s why I long for him and surely will have mercy on him.

“ Oh, how can I give you up, Israel? How can I let you go? How can I destroy you like Admah or demolish you like Zeboiim? My heart is torn within me, and my compassion overflows.

On that day even the harness bells of the horses will be inscribed with these words: Holy to the Lord. And the cooking pots in the Temple of the Lord will be as sacred as the basins used beside the altar.

He will make a highway for the remnant of his people, the remnant coming from Assyria, just as he did for Israel long ago when they returned from Egypt.

In that day, everyone in the land of Judah will sing this song: Our city is strong! We are surrounded by the walls of God’s salvation.

In a little while my anger against you will end, and then my anger will rise up to destroy them.”

And they were singing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb:“ Great and marvelous are your works, O Lord God, the Almighty. Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations.Who will not fear you, Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous deeds have been revealed.”

After this, I heard what sounded like a vast crowd in heaven shouting,“ Praise the Lord! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God.His judgments are true and just. He has punished the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality. He has avenged the murder of his servants.”And again their voices rang out:“ Praise the Lord! The smoke from that city ascends forever and ever!”Then the twenty four elders and the four living beings fell down and worshiped God, who was sitting on the throne. They cried out,“ Amen! Praise the Lord!”And from the throne came a voice that said,“ Praise our God, all his servants, all who fear him, from the least to the greatest.”Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a vast crowd or the roar of mighty ocean waves or the crash of loud thunder:“ Praise the Lord! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself.

You will stumble along as prisoners or lie among the dead. But even then the Lord’s anger will not be satisfied. His fist is still poised to strike.
