他將他們所求的賜給他們，卻使他們心靈軟弱。

耶和華必使人聽見他威嚴的聲音，又以極大的憤怒、吞滅的火焰、雷雨、暴風和像石塊的冰雹，使人看見他降罰的膀臂。亞述必因耶和華的聲音驚惶，耶和華必用杖擊打它。耶和華必將定規要打的杖加在它身上；每打一下，都必配合擊鼓彈琴的節奏。打仗時，耶和華必振臂與它交戰。原來陀斐特早已預備好了，是為君王預備的；又深又寬，堆滿了火和木柴；耶和華的氣息猶如一股硫磺使它燃起。

耶和華就差遣一個使者進入亞述王的營中，把所有大能的勇士、官長和將領盡都滅了。亞述王滿面羞愧地回到本國，進了他神明的廟中，他幾個親生的兒子在那裏用刀殺了他。

萬軍之耶和華起誓說：「我怎樣思想，必照樣成就；我怎樣定意，必照樣堅立，要在我的地上擊破亞述，在我的山上將它踐踏。它的軛必離開受壓制的人，它的重擔必離開他們的肩頭。」這是向全地所定的旨意，向萬國所伸出的手。萬軍之耶和華既然定意，誰能阻撓呢？他的手已經伸出，誰能使它縮回呢？

到那日，雅各的榮美必失色，它肥胖的身軀漸漸消瘦；

你那成羣的陌生人要像細塵，暴民要像吹起的糠粃；這事必頃刻之間忽然臨到。萬軍之耶和華必使雷轟、地震、巨響、旋風、暴風，並吞滅的火焰臨到它。那時，攻擊亞利伊勒列國的軍隊，與一切攻擊亞利伊勒和它城堡，並帶給它患難的，必如夢，如夜間的異象；又像飢餓的人在夢中吃飯，醒了仍覺飢腸轆轆；或像口渴的人在夢中喝水，醒了仍覺發昏，心裏想喝。攻擊錫安山列國的軍隊也必如此。

羔羊必來吃草，如同在自己的草場；在富有人的廢墟，流浪的牲畜也來吃。

因你向我發烈怒，你的狂傲上達我耳中，我要用鈎子鈎住你的鼻子，將嚼環放在你口裏，使你從原路轉回去。』

戰士在戰亂中所穿的靴子，以及那滾在血中的衣服，都必當作柴火燃燒。

耶和華的使者出去，在亞述營中殺了十八萬五千人。清早有人起來，看哪，都是死屍。

希律不歸榮耀給上帝，所以主的使者立刻擊打他，他被蟲咬，就斷了氣。

以賽亞對他們說：「要對你們的主人這樣說，耶和華如此說：『你聽見亞述王的僕人褻瀆我的話，不要懼怕。看哪，因為我必驚動他的心，他要聽見風聲就歸回本地，在那裏我必使他倒在刀下。』」

因此，看哪，主必使亞述王和他的威勢如大河翻騰洶湧的水上漲，蓋過他們，必上漲超過一切水道，漲過兩岸，

耶和華說：「現在我要興起，要高升，要受尊崇。你們懷的是糠粃，生的是碎稭；你們的氣息如火吞滅自己。萬民必像燒着的石灰，又如斬斷的荊棘，在火裏燃燒。」你們遠方的人，當聽我所做的事；你們近處的人，當承認我的大能。錫安的罪人都懼怕，戰兢抓住不敬虔的人。我們中間有誰能與吞噬的火同住？我們中間有誰能與不滅的火共存呢？

又毀滅樹林和田園的榮華，連魂帶體，好像病重的人消逝一樣。
