Therefore, the Lord, the Lord Almighty, will send a wasting disease upon his sturdy warriors; under his pomp a fire will be kindled like a blazing flame.

The Lord will cause His glorious voice to be heard, And show the descent of His arm, With the indignation of His anger And the flame of a devouring fire, With scattering, tempest, and hailstones.For through the voice of the Lord Assyria will be beaten down, As He strikes with the rod.And in every place where the staff of punishment passes, Which the Lord lays on him, It will be with tambourines and harps; And in battles of brandishing He will fight with it.For Tophet was established of old, Yes, for the king it is prepared. He has made it deep and large; Its pyre is fire with much wood; The breath of the Lord, like a stream of brimstone, Kindles it.

Then the Lord sent an angel who cut down every mighty man of valor, leader, and captain in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned shamefaced to his own land. And when he had gone into the temple of his god, some of his own offspring struck him down with the sword there.

The Lord of hosts has sworn, saying,“ Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass, And as I have purposed, so it shall stand:That I will break the Assyrian in My land, And on My mountains tread him underfoot. Then his yoke shall be removed from them, And his burden removed from their shoulders.This is the purpose that is purposed against the whole earth, And this is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations.For the Lord of hosts has purposed, And who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, And who will turn it back?”

“ In that day it shall come to pass That the glory of Jacob will wane, And the fatness of his flesh grow lean.

“ Moreover the multitude of your foes Shall be like fine dust, And the multitude of the terrible ones Like chaff that passes away; Yes, it shall be in an instant, suddenly.You will be punished by the Lord of hosts With thunder and earthquake and great noise, With storm and tempest And the flame of devouring fire.The multitude of all the nations who fight against Ariel, Even all who fight against her and her fortress, And distress her, Shall be as a dream of a night vision.It shall even be as when a hungry man dreams, And look— he eats; But he awakes, and his soul is still empty; Or as when a thirsty man dreams, And look— he drinks; But he awakes, and indeed he is faint, And his soul still craves: So the multitude of all the nations shall be, Who fight against Mount Zion.”

Then the lambs shall feed in their pasture, And in the waste places of the fat ones strangers shall eat.

Because your rage against Me and your tumult Have come up to My ears, Therefore I will put My hook in your nose And My bridle in your lips, And I will turn you back By the way which you came.”’

For every warrior’s sandal from the noisy battle, And garments rolled in blood, Will be used for burning and fuel of fire.

Then the angel of the Lord went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when people arose early in the morning, there were the corpses— all dead.

Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.

And Isaiah said to them,“ Thus you shall say to your master,‘ Thus says the Lord:“ Do not be afraid of the words which you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed Me.Surely I will send a spirit upon him, and he shall hear a rumor and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.”’”

Now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up over them The waters of the River, strong and mighty— The king of Assyria and all his glory; He will go up over all his channels And go over all his banks.

“ Now I will rise,” says the Lord;“ Now I will be exalted, Now I will lift Myself up.You shall conceive chaff, You shall bring forth stubble; Your breath, as fire, shall devour you.And the people shall be like the burnings of lime; Like thorns cut up they shall be burned in the fire.Hear, you who are afar off, what I have done; And you who are near, acknowledge My might.”The sinners in Zion are afraid; Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites:“ Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?”

And it will consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful field, Both soul and body; And they will be as when a sick man wastes away.
