Therefore, the Lord, the Lord Almighty, will send a wasting disease upon his sturdy warriors; under his pomp a fire will be kindled like a blazing flame.

And the Lord will cause His voice of authority to be heard, And the descending of His arm to be seen in fierce anger, And in the flame of a consuming fire In cloudburst, downpour, and hailstones.For at the voice of the Lord Assyria will be terrified, When He strikes with the rod.And every blow of the rod of punishment, Which the Lord will lay on him, Will be with the music of tambourines and lyres; And in battles, brandishing weapons, He will fight them.For Topheth has long been ready, Indeed, it has been prepared for the king. He has made it deep and large, A pyre of fire with plenty of wood; The breath of the Lord, like a torrent of brimstone, sets it afire.

And the Lord sent an angel who destroyed every warrior, commander, and officer in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned in shame to his own land. And when he had entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons killed him there with the sword.

The Lord of armies has sworn, saying,“ Certainly, just as I have intended, so it has happened, and just as I have planned, so it will stand,to break Assyria in My land, and I will trample him on My mountains. Then his yoke will be removed from them, and his burden removed from their shoulders.This is the plan devised against the entire earth; and this is the hand that is stretched out against all the nations.For the Lord of armies has planned, and who can frustrate it? And as for His stretched out hand, who can turn it back?”

Now on that day the glory of Jacob will fade, And the fatness of his flesh will become lean.

But the multitude of your enemies will become like fine dust, And the multitude of the ruthless ones like the chaff which blows away; And it will happen instantly, suddenly.From the Lord of armies you will be punished with thunder and earthquake and loud noise, With whirlwind and tempest and the flame of a consuming fire.And the multitude of all the nations who wage war against Ariel, Even all who wage war against her and her stronghold, and who distress her, Will be like a dream, a vision of the night.It will be as when a hungry person dreams— And behold, he is eating; But when he awakens, his hunger is not satisfied, Or as when a thirsty person dreams— And behold, he is drinking, But when he awakens, behold, he is faint And his thirst is not quenched. So will the multitude of all the nations be Who wage war against Mount Zion.

Then the lambs will graze as in their pasture, And strangers will eat in the ruins of the wealthy.

Because of your raging against Me And because your complacency has come up to My ears, I will put My hook in your nose And My bridle in your lips, And I will turn you back by the way that you came.

For every boot of the marching warrior in the roar of battle, And cloak rolled in blood, will be for burning, fuel for the fire.

Then the angel of the Lord went out and struck 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians; and when the rest got up early in the morning, behold, all of the 185,000 were dead.

And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died.

And Isaiah said to them,“ This is what you shall say to your master:‘ This is what the Lord says:“ Do not be afraid because of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed Me.Behold, I am going to put a spirit in him so that he will hear news and return to his own land. And I will make him fall by the sword in his own land.” ’ ”

Now therefore, behold, the Lord is about to bring on them the strong and abundant waters of the Euphrates River, That is, the king of Assyria and all his glory; And it will rise over all its channels and go over all its banks.

“ Now I will arise,” says the Lord,“ Now I will be exalted, now I will be lifted up.You have conceived chaff, you will give birth to stubble; My breath will consume you like a fire.The peoples will be burned to lime, Like cut thorns which are burned in the fire.“ You who are far away, hear what I have done; And you who are near, acknowledge My might.”Sinners in Zion are terrified; Trembling has seized the godless.“ Who among us can live with the consuming fire? Who among us can live with everlasting burning?”

And He will destroy the glory of his forest and of his fruitful garden, both soul and body, And it will be as when a sick person wastes away.
